Tekin 1/8 Scale controller release date?

Anyone got a release date or any information on tekins Big Speedo for the 1/8 scale market?

MTBikerTim 11.06.2007 10:44 PM

Specs would be cool. It would be nice to see how it's going to stack up against castle's mythical monster.

Yeah ide love some specs too... and if they plan on competing with Castle on release date... price... and most importanly specs

crazyjr 11.07.2007 05:55 PM

I wouldn't hold my breath, for a comparable price to the MMM. Tekin is a race house and build to a higher standard, they have already said the esc's they are building are using the best in their range available.

mwry13 11.08.2007 10:02 PM

I'd imagin the prices of the Tekin Controller and Castle MMM to be around the same at launch because isnt the Castle MMM goin to come with a Neu motor (1515 1y is the rumor)?? and since i already have a Neu 1515 1y/f i dont mind spending for the best speed control (tekin) if there going to be better supported, unlike MGM speedos. i hear some horrible stories on how long it took for a MGM speed control to be serviced.

Happywing 11.09.2007 08:36 AM

The Tekin ESC will cost more than the CC. Most likely, it will be better too. No corners are cut at Tekin.

nl12 11.09.2007 08:53 AM

I am gonna buy a Tekin and a Castle, I will let you guys know the differences.

rchippie 12.12.2007 08:30 PM

I just sent them a email today asking if there release eta is still eairler next year. I'll post the repliy when i get it.

team3six 04.08.2008 12:20 AM

Oops, I guess I posted this in the wrong thread. But here was the latests I got from the Tekin boys on this.

OK, got new today on the Tekin Monster system and it looks as if its name is changing. Its not much but it is better than nothing. MMM will still be out before this will. Maybe.

(team3six)
Hi. I have been awaiting and trying to figure out something that no one in the RC world is aware of. When is the MT coming out, how much will it be, and what will the specs be, ect, ect, ect? I goto the website often and still I wait for the Monster to be released. Please if you could shed some light on it I would appreciate it. Thanks

(Tekin)
I am going to say about 4 months. We will be releasing the RS next month and than we will finish up the MT I believe the name is going to the RX8 or R8X. I have no idea on price yet. I know it is going to be a beast and is suppose to be able to handle up to a 6s Li-Po pack and will be compatible with motors like the Neu motor etc. and will be compatible with the Tekin Hotwire. . Other than that I do not have a lot of information

tekin prez at rctech.net made a post some days ago, saying it will cost less than the r1pro [because it won`t be using as much fets]... that means slightly under 200$ [guess]... 3-4months is also what i hear... features-wise: same concept as the r1pro; heatsink/fan and ubec excluded of course...

What makes Tekin better than CC?

glassdoctor 04.08.2008 01:31 PM

We can't say one is better than the other. Especially at this point in time, when neither system is even available yet.

But we do know that Tekin is very serious about racing and they have been testing a lot in actual race conditions. So hopefully that will translate into a great product. They claim to use cutting edge FETS in their controllers... but I wouldn't know what's what there anyway, lol.

skellyo 04.08.2008 02:12 PM

I do have to say I was extremely impressed by Tekin when I read this thread over on rctech.net:

Tekin R1pro in 1/8 scale - Answers Thread

magman 04.08.2008 09:51 PM

It will be interesting to compare the mmm and new Tekin when they come out...I guess i will have to buy BOTH!

I have been following that too. I am impressed that tekin is giving advice on what to do to make the esc work better in these extreme conditions. They also seem to be open with there info.

Tekin RX8

We have been working with Tekin for some time giving them info and data on what we have experienced running the electric 1/8th scales. Tekin Pres has very appreciative of our input and experiences.

jnev 04.17.2008 01:59 AM

Thats good to hear. At least they are getting tips and help from the public. I haven't seen/heard that CC is talking to the public about what they want to see too much. I am just really excited to see someone do a head-to-head comparison of the Tekin RX8 and the Castle Creations MMM.

Don't know where you heard that rumour it is a 1515 size motor, but Patrick said here that it wasn't a authentic Neu motor, and in fact has some significant differences. I also suspect that with the dramatic price difference, the Castle Neu motor's will be machine wind not hand wind.

teamtekin 01.14.2009 11:50 AM

The Rx8 housing mold is being cut currently right here in Idaho. It takes weeks to cut a good mold due to very small cutters and delicate work.

A pre-production run of T8 motors is due in next week.

A preproduction run of circuit boards should be done this month.

The packaging designs are just being finalized and look sweet.

We are shooting for release by Feb 26. Its what I want for my birthday!

The proto speedos and motors continue to work excellent for us. We have no major technical issues to deal with and just have to build them.

Any way to get on a "preorder" list?

What motor KV will you be offering to start with? Hopefully more than just one.

I'm interested to get a whole package, (ESC and motor) but need something properly suited for a buggy on 5s.

jhautz 02.17.2009 05:57 AM

9 days and counting...:mdr: How it looking guys?

Tons of wind options!

Question: How is the RX8 "leading the industry in ... power handling ability"? Can it really handle more power than the MMM?

Quote from here.

I'm not a CC fanboy. I'm legitimately curious if it handles more power.

Thanks!

I am with you on that. Think I will have to try the 1900kv model. looks like this will be an exciting year for 8th scale.

IMO, I doubt it. It might be close, but I can't see how an ESC that small could handle even more current than the MMM. The MMM uses some of the best FETs out there with a power board that's crammed with copper and a massive black, cross-cut heatsink with a fan...I don't see how the Tekin unit could handle even more power and be smaller. I might be wrong of course.

Those motors do look very nice indeed, though. I wonder how they stack up against the CC-Neus in terms of efficiency.

magman 02.20.2009 06:03 PM

Any price on the motors?

Never mind...I found it!

Continuous Current: 210 Amps*
*Per FET manufacturer spec sheet

I would like to know what the real number is. This sure seems kind of "novak" of them.

I am with kulangflow, what exactly is in it for the price difference?

+1 on it....

Semi Pro 02.23.2009 03:27 AM

$200 for the esc sounds good to me, i will be ordering one to test against my mmm

gixxer 02.23.2009 10:50 AM

I am fine with the price. Its $50 more for the combo then the Monster. For that its smaller, sensored and the rs series are easy to adjust even with out the hotwire.

teamtekin 02.24.2009 07:52 PM

Might as well get it out there. Minor disaster has struck and we have had a small delay. We hate Murphy….

Last week the housing mold was damaged when setting up for the volume production run. We had hoped the repair would not be too bad and spent the last week trying to get it done, but it has turned out to be a total loss and part of the mold has to be re-cut completely. For those that understand injection molding this is not a process that can just be hurried with extra effort. It can take literally weeks to cut a detailed mold. It is a tedious process, but it is a local vendor and they will press hard for us. It will be at least 2 to 3 weeks before we can get the tool back on the machine and make some parts. On the bright side that is closer to when the motors will be available so we will have systems not long afterwards.

No one is more annoyed than I am. At least it is not a technical problem and is just an oops. We press on and still will be within a reasonable amount of time of the original estimate for release.

It is a real number from the spec sheets but I agree it is a bogus claim. It is how many controllers are rated and does give a fair best case comparison. However it is very dependent on cooling and the circuit board design and real constant current is typically a lot less.

We tested to 130A continuous and could not shut down the unit due to thermal or failure. That would dump your 5000mah battery in less than 3 min. It has shown to be pretty burley and even impressed us. Time will tell, but I think a lot of people are going to be smiling like we are. The Dual Mode drive is sweet and consistent.

Electric Dave 02.24.2009 08:13 PM

We have been conditioned to accept delays so no big deal on the mold.

Sounds like they will be out in the wild just as the 2009 off road season starts (in the northeast) which is fine by me.
