G-Maxx Steering Question

I need some help. I just built a G-Maxx truck. I am using the G3 Race suspension with the G2 X-Brace chassis. I am running Ingedy piggyback shocks. I have a Novak Brushless motor.

Love the truck, but I have a problem. My steering linkage is hitting the bottom of the shock where it mounts to the L-arm on both sides. Sitting normal, its fine. If the suspension is depressed, it hits. This only happens when its turned a little one way or another. Strait is fine. I have the stock turnbuckles with stock ends.

What can I do to correct this? I have the stock Steering bell crank setup, with aluminum posts. I would like to upgrade the entire setup to aluminum, but I want to fix the problem first.

Please help!

You could use a suspension limiter? (fuel tube inside the shocks) or an external wire..

Would you be able to post a picture?

A picture would be helpful. Perhaps you have the turnbuckles mounted incorrectly or something that a picture would clear up.

Thanks for the picture. If possible, could you take a picture with the wheels off from the rear of the truck (get a close shot of the front steering set-up from the rear perspective and no wheels). It is a little difficult to see the trouble in the above pictures. Also, make sure the turnbuckle is mounted on the bottom of the sterring knuckle. A quick tip that may halp is to reverse the lower shock mounting screws(put the nuts on the inside, towards the cvd).

As I suspected, the steering turnbuckle is mounted on the upper portion of the steering knuckle. You likely have quite a bit of bumpsteer as well as the rubbing issue. Take the outer end of the turnbuckle and move it to the lower portion of the steering knuckle(screw up from the bottom, attaching the turnbuckle to the bottom of the knuckle). This should fix a couple problems at the same time (rubbing and bumpsteer).

So... Am I stupid! Am I suppost to have the turnbuckles mounted under the Knuckle and not over like I have it? :D

THANKS SOOOO MUCH MIKE!!!!! I am kinda new at this and could not figure this out. I still have lots to learn. I kinda built this truck from ordering parts online. :D

RC-Monster Mike 07.12.2005 11:11 PM

No worries, mate! I learned the same way you did(I made the same mistake!). That is the nice thing about these type of forums - you get the benefit of a lot of other people's experience. Have fun! Your truck should handle a bit differently now!

Serum 07.13.2005 03:09 AM

Yeah, that is one sweet looking truck you've got!!

Dafni 07.13.2005 03:13 AM

Nice truck! Go and see how it handles with almost zero bump-steer.
I love the Gorilla chassis! Have fun!

Thanks everyone!

I haven't really ran it yet. Just a little in my family room!:D

I still have to do a few more things to get it ready. One is putting oil in the shocks. Any recomendations on weight? :)

Dafni 07.13.2005 06:48 AM

No oil in the shocks? I haven't noticed this in the pics :L:

Shock oil weight obviously depends on the shock pistons and truck weight. The oil has to somewhat correspond with the springs. Try 30wt for a start, and see if you like it.

Thanks! I'll try 30wt to start.:)

The Integy shocks have very large holes in the shock pistons. You may want to try something more along the lines of 70 weight in those shocks. Just a tip. I have over 100 weight in my Integy Shocks due to the large piston holes.

Chase023 07.15.2005 02:50 AM

I started with 50 Wt and now am at 80Wt with my Integy MSR5s.

ublittle 07.15.2005 06:30 AM
