Jato with Neu 1515 motor.
 
G'Day, Just thought I might show a pic. of the Jato that I have converted to brushless.

I am runnung a Neu 1515/1D motor.
It used to have a MM 5700 motor but for some reason the magnets broke into 3 pieces.
Plently of torque with this motor I have had to lock the slipper clutch as it kept on spinning even when tightened right up.
Running metal tranny gears as the nylon one don't last 1 battery.http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...ilver/jato.jpg

It will leave the 3.3 in its dust.
It has unreal take off speed.
I have got the tranny locked into second gear. ( first gear has now been removed)
I am runing a 54T Spur gear and a 33T pinion gear.

The only issue is that if you are at say 3/4 throttle then give it full throttle it will just filp over.
It may be a tad overkill but it is a real fun truck to drive plus it teaches you more about throttle controll.

What kinda battery / ESC setup are you using? with a 1d and it doesnt look like your using much more than 3S... you'd be pulling close to like 200 + amps right?

I know they can be changed, but, going by the wires, i think its a mamba max. The battery looks to be a 4s 4000 or 5000 maxamps pack

The battery is only 3s 8000mah.
I have just installed a MGM 16018 controler as the Mamba maxx one was getting way too hot.

This isn't meant to me a smart ass comment (as I am prone to.. not when I'm this new to a forum tho :mdr:), but there a heaps of already electric stadium trucks getting around that would be easier to "convert" (not much of a conversion lol), so why did you choose to convert a Jato?

That is pretty cool stuff. I was actually thinking about doing a similar conversion just because the JATO is a very fast little beast already and to make those speeds with brushless would be fun. The JATO itself has a lot of appeal in it's design and it just looks fast. A video would be pretty cool:lol:.

Thats the spirit. Take the plunge and make it brushless. Then come and give us video and an update on how it works out for you. Since you have already driven it Nitro you can share the differences with all of us.:lol:

I am actually redoing my inventory....I currently have 3 Brushless T4's, Brushless XXX-T, and the Jato. I just sold my Brushless Rustler and I am gathering the parts now to build a Brushless Revo!

I just need to find a way to get some motor mounts because I dont have the resources here in the big sandbox to make any.

The easiest way to get a motor mount for the Jato, is to just use the Revo motor mount from the rc-monster store and drill holes in the appropriate places in the chassis to match the holes in the motor mount.

Using a Revo mount will invlolve hacking one up. I think I have a batter solution. It involves using the orginal nitro motor mount, mount a piece of aluminium plat to the motor mount. Some trimming required, and then using 540 motor clamps to mount the motor to the plate. Adjusting the motor placement is done my sliding the original nitro motor mount. I came across this solution from someone who made a carbon fiber jato.

You know what I have been looking around. I haven't come across something. But all you need is a clamp with the 540 diameter. I think it is 30 mm or so. I'll do some more searching here.

Ouch - feels like I am back in the days of my first BL conversion using "the man who's name we do not speak" FDM boat motor mounts. It works, but in the long run isn't the best way to mount the motor.

One thing I have learned over my few years on this site is that this type of mount is prone to alot of problems as the torque on the chassis will cause chassis bending which causes movement between the pinion and spur gears and leads to a lot of inefficiency and wear.

A mount that can maintain a nice consistent mesh between the pinion and spur will work best.

Not at all. The only thing I had to do is drill 4 holes in the chassis... easiest thing I've done.
