ProTek lipos

Hi,

I found this http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16870 browsing amainhobbies.

5S 4000Mah 20C 2C charge rate for $130, seems excellent? To good to be true?
Anyone tried these?

Too bad I have a MM esc, there doesnt seem to be any 4S packs :(

MetalMan 11.26.2007 12:45 PM

Without having run this pack, I can't comment on it. But in the description it says it comes with 16awg. wire, which is way too small for a pack that's rated at 80amps continuous.

Deal looks good, but MetalMan is correct... .. but that's a good price if the specs where true... Maybe it's 20C continuos discharge for 15 Seconds... LOL
the max discharge rate of 30C is only for 3 seconds..

I would bet theyre wrong about the 16ga, in the pictures it looks more like 12ga wire. If I were in the market for more lipos I would probably give those a try.

Håkan Johansson: Hi?

Dan: How may I help you today?

Håkan Johansson: I was just wondering if the wire type on these lipos where correct it says (16 GA Wire), http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16870

Håkan Johansson: it seems too thin for 80A cont.

Dan: Give me just a moment to check on that for you.

Håkan Johansson: Thank you!

Dan: that is how those batteries come to us. We have flight tested them and they work great, we have had no issues. You can always solder thicker wires on if you feel you need to.

Håkan Johansson: ok, could you also get them in 4S?

Dan: we do not have them in 4S all we have in that size is the Thunder Power batteries.

Håkan Johansson: ok thanks for your help!

suicideneil 11.26.2007 04:16 PM

Did you spot these? You'll need two for 4s, but it has the same discharge ratings as the 5s pack- same cells I guess.

Serum 11.26.2007 04:18 PM

Okay, so what he is saying is that they used about the thinnest wires on them they could find.. :)

Cool feature though, that live chat..

Yeah I was kind of surprised that it worked actually :)
Im in Sweden and didnt check what time difference it was so I guess I got lucky :)

If I have 2 2S packs can I charge them as one pack somehow?

Serum 11.26.2007 04:47 PM

Yeah, you could.

But i isn't it an option to buy two 4S packs from truerc.com?

But the ProTek lipos has 2C charge rate which would be a really nice feature!
I always charge my TrueRc lipos through a balancer, could you do that with two 2S packs? Could I just solder them togheter to one balancer contact?

Serum 11.26.2007 05:13 PM

No, you need to charge them in series and treat them like a 4S pack with balancing.

But how do I physicly connect them to the balancer? There will be two connectors from two packs?

Serum 11.26.2007 05:30 PM

well, you need to make a special charge harnass for them;

you need a total of 5 wires on the ballance cable.

Yeah ok I see what you mean, I was thinking of 2 4S packs in parallell.

satttheman 02.10.2008 01:40 PM

so has anyone tried these yet

Desmo 02.10.2008 02:24 PM

it says they have 12ga wires now too

Hakan_J 02.19.2008 05:43 AM

How are there packs? are they worth buying, prices seem very good.

Serum 02.20.2008 03:33 PM

Worth every penny. They seem to hold their voltage just as good as maxamps.

Thank you very much!

satttheman 02.20.2008 03:58 PM

thanks

Takedown 02.20.2008 04:49 PM

Protek Lipos are great for the price and are just as good as any other lipo out their if treated properly. The 5s doesnt come with 16awg wire from what Ive heard. I hear it comes with 12awg wire. But ya I own a Protek 4000mah 2s and its very powerful. I couldnt be happier to have something 2x as powerful as my last 6-cell IB4200 pack for the same price.

SpEEdyBL 02.20.2008 05:05 PM

What about the elite 4800 25 C packs which are the same price at cheapbatterypacks.com? Anyone tired those? What about the 30c ones which are still only $160 for a 4s 4500mah pack? Nobody answered my thread from earlier.

Note that serum is talking about the true RC packs.

Hakan_J 02.21.2008 04:34 AM

I use TrueRC and they work great, but I really liked that you could charge Protek lipos with 2C.

smokyracing 02.26.2008 04:08 PM

I have 4 4000 2c pro tecks and 2 4000 3c and have had no problems running them in my crt.5 with a mm esc and there 5700 for the price I don't think you can go wrong I have had like 10 max amps batterys and they work good but have not noticed any diff between them and my protecks

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.19.2008 05:52 PM

Does anyone know what cells are in Protek Batteries?

Also, the 5S comes with 12GA

BL_RV0 05.19.2008 11:29 PM

I have a 3s 4000 pack with about 20 cycles on it. It has 12awg wire. The Protek packs to have a tendency to swell up a bit, so I'd always run a pack that's slightly smaller than the battery tray or case itself. I heard from someone (can't remember who) that he thought they were Enerland cells in the Proteks.

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.20.2008 03:57 AM

They say they hold their burst discharge for 3 seconds, how long do other brands of batteries hold their burst discharge for?
