Any recommendations? 4wd buggy or truggy 1/10th brushless

Hello,
Does anybody have any recommendations on a 4wd buggy or truggy 1/10 electric that can be made brushless? This would be a new project that I want to start.

MetalMan 11.27.2007 12:05 AM

One option is to get a CRT.5 and the RC-Monster extended chassis. When used with wide-offset 1/10 truck wheels and truck tires, the extended CRT.5 is something like 1/11 scale.

Kyosho has recently introduced their new line of 1/10 4wd nitro buggy/truggy that appears to be a good candidate for conversion, but they aren't out yet.

There really is no true 1/10th truggy that I know of. A lot of guys here are doing the CRT .5, it is about 1/12 scale but tough enough to handle high powered brushless and is a true truggy.

rootar 11.27.2007 12:23 AM

The extended crt.5 from mike would be the easiest to do. You could do an LS10 like everyone on the site has already done (i just finished mine) all it needs is a wing and itd be a truggy, you can buy a wing and mount off the L10 and it would bolt up pretty easy i believe, i havent tryed it yet but soon i will.

There are quite a few choices in the buggy department. I recently bought a BJ4WE - great car.

Check out www.oople.com for reviews.

BL_RV0 11.27.2007 11:55 AM

i know hotbodies makes some 1/10 truggies.

RCHabit 11.27.2007 12:09 PM

Would the mamba max 5700 system work in the crt.5 brushless conversion?

entjoles 11.27.2007 06:23 PM

a good combo for the crt .5 would be a 9L motor with a MM esc and 3s lipo

many have ran the mm motors and have not liked the results, they get pretty hot

RCHabit 11.27.2007 08:10 PM

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the crt.5 project. What do you think? Sould I buy a new one? The kit that sells with no motor. Or buy a used one?

BL_RV0 11.27.2007 08:16 PM

id look into the lehner 1930 motors, or the neu 1509 motors. they are very lightweight, and super powerful, but you need the dough for those. they lahner goes for $238
here is a crt .5 with a lehner 1930
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0
considering the crt .5 in the video was on 2s lipo, which is equivelant to a 6 cell nimh pack, that motor has power. weighing in at only 230 grams, its one of the lightest motors of that size available, considering the feigao L size motor weighs in at ~310 grams.

BTW, id go with a new crt .5 because if you buy used you dont know what the things already been through, like condition of the diffs, etc.

also, that 1930 would be insane on 4s lipo, check out this esc.
https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4691
if you use that esc, you will need a pistix adapter
http://www.rc-hydros.com/pistix.html
id personally go with this lipo, or something similar, (note the price)
https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4129
hell, ive seen lipo chargers for <5 cells go for $30 at
www.truerc.com
you can get the motor at
www.finedeisignrc.com
(chris fine is not the best dealer, so be CAREFUL!!)

god i hope this post was helpful.

RCHabit 11.27.2007 08:55 PM

Thanks For the info,
I'd like to stick with the 11.1v 3s because I have a brand new lying around and also go with the mm for the same reason. I do some reseach on the motor.
I'll also go with Mikes extended chassis.

starscream 11.27.2007 11:03 PM

I have a CRT.5 with the RCM kit. I am going to run a MM and a Mega motor.
I just picked up a LS10 so I can compare the two.
Does anyone know if there is a motor mount that will work with the LS10?

I have to agree with this. the bj4, b44 or the kyosho lazer should all be great 4wd buggies. I picked up the associated b44 about 2 weeks ago but haven't been able to try it out on the track yet do to other issues.

BL_RV0 11.28.2007 10:32 AM

do you guys think the team academy SB v2 pro buggy would be a good 4wd 1/10 buggy?

gixxer 11.28.2007 11:54 AM

I think its a good buggy but not a lot of lhs carry parts for it.

DrKnow65 11.28.2007 09:03 PM

I'm also working on getting a 1/10th scale 4wd buggy. I'm definatly leaning more twards a kyosho zx5, academy sb v2, or a tamiya df-03... reason being these cars all use a shaft drive and will fit a standard 6 cell pack (I'm using lipo's and there are way more options for a standard pack vs. a saddle pack). I tried to pick up a Dark impact used (df-03) but it didn't work out...

Now I'm going after the Academy sb v2, parts are hard to find but they would have been for the df-03 as well.

I would be up for the zx5, but I'm not convinced it's worth more than the sb v2 for the price. The basic zx5 is more expensive than the sb v2 pro carbon fiber with all the goodies.

Anyone know of any other 4wd buggies that are shaft drive, and will use a 6 cell stick pack.

p.s. the df-03 has an extended chassis option for 7 cell packs that would fit some of the better 4s lipo's out there.

DrKnow65 11.30.2007 02:39 PM

Update, I've placed my order with amainhobbies.com for am Academy SB V2 Pro. I paid $268 after shipping (with a coupon I got from e-mailing their sales dept.) and I should get it Dec 4th. Just in time to have it built and race ready for the B-Day (9th). The reviews are good for it and it appears there are only two issues with the car, one is a steering mod to get full lock-to-lock travel, and the other is changing the plastic rear outdrives:surprised: for metal ones (which seem to be out of stock everywhere, hope my plastics will live long enough so I can get the steel without down time).

They have cheaper versions, but to get it on par with the winningest 4wd buggies basically would take all the stuff that comes in the "pro" kit :no:and would cost twice as much in the long run...:oh:

I'll run it on MM,5700kv,3s 5000HV Maxamps untill I can get some modding on it done to run MM,Neu 1509/1.5Y,6s:gasp::rofl:
(3s packs on either side of the chassis, move the motor to the 12 o'clock position with a custom motor/driveline mount, or move the motor to the opposite side of the steering servo with the electronics mounted on the chassis brace or battery hold downs as the mount can be either way right-left) I'll have to get it to see what works out.

sleebus.jones 11.30.2007 03:26 PM

Just FYI (to nobody in particular) I picked up a used ZX-5 roller and dropped a 7700Kv in it. It runs great, I'm really happy with it. I am swapping out the 7700kv for a 5700kv, it was just too darn ballistic to be usable on a track. Heck of a lot of fun on the street tho!

ssspconcepts 11.30.2007 03:28 PM

I vote CRT.5

I just received my ext kit from Mike and the quality is superb. I also just received my CRT.5 pro kit and it is very robust given its scale (1/12). The gears are similar to 1/8 scale diffs and should hold up to BL power just fine.

Gotta say the CRT.5 looks like a very neat car. Difficult toss up between that and one of the 1:10 buggies mentioned above.

For your viewing convenience, my 4S BJ4WE is pictured here.

I just finished my RCM ext chassis conversion and I'm taking it out for a its first run at the local indoor track tonight. At the momment I'm still running the buggy wheels, but would like to try full truck wheels to match the longer wheel base. Does anyone make a yellow 1/10 truck wheel that will fit the crt.5? I've seen them in white, black and chrome, but not yellow.

I know they are out there...just gotta find the vendor that sells 12mm hex hub 2.2 truck wheels.

That thing is wicked. The only thing is that I really try to stay away from ball differentials....but for such a light application, it looks like you are in good shape.

RCHabit 12.02.2007 04:53 PM

Well,
I just made the choice,, I just purchased a new CRT.5 for 200 Thought that was a good deal, ( EBAY ) Also I will do the RCM Extended chassis. A start of a new project

Congrats! I bet you bought the CRT.5 that came with the custom painted body?

I think you are going to be happy with the quality...its a nice little setup.

RCHabit 12.03.2007 01:08 AM

Yeah, Is that yours? with the custom body?

No...I was eyeballing it because it was a killer deal. I just bought one for a similar price...new but no custom bod. You did well.

DrKnow65 12.05.2007 01:00 AM

Just got my Academy SB V2 Pro, $268 shipped from amainhobbies.com with a coupon. Put the kit togeather and I'm liking it, realy well made.

I'm going to have to sort out some lost shocks with a ittle more travel and move the steering servo to fit the modded MM esc, but I'm sure I can work it out... Will post a few pic's when it's complete.

I am going to use this one dual purpose as I can get the SRT-2 Pro shock towers and shocks to make it a street machine for some speed runs :) Should be able to switch it back and fourth in about a half hour with setting camber, toe, ect...
