New FLM Brushless Motor Mount in the Nude

1 Attachment(s)
Guys,

I have seem a pic here and there on this forum, but Mike didn't post the nude pics.

What we have here is a new right side chassis and the new FLM motor mount.

Fast Lane 11.28.2007 01:17 AM

We are actually in process right now machining a new version of the TVP with the tranny moved 1.500" foward to allow more room for batteries, and to aid in weight distribution.

MTBikerTim 11.28.2007 02:06 AM

Now that sounds awesome. Go Fast Lane. I'll be watching eagerly. I have 2 ends of a savage and a tranny built and waiting for something to join them together. This is the sort of thing I'm waiting for. I can't wait (Literally I may buy a blade 400 rtr if they come out first lol).

Maxxman 11.28.2007 03:37 AM

I know that your still designing them but what tvp style's are they likely to work with, Extended Low Center of Gravity TVP ,Low Center of Gravity TVP etc.
I was going to sell my savage but now i'm not so sure.
thanks

knotted 11.28.2007 06:07 AM

I'm waiting too. Got everything ready for a new build. Fastlane rules!
Jamie, please post more pictures, it's looking great.

pullstarter 11.28.2007 07:01 AM

Does that steering servo mount provide bracing for the top of the steering tubes , i.e. where the old radio tray used to brace it?

Serum 11.28.2007 02:08 PM

Jamie; Thanks for signing up.

My concern is the clearance for the dual brake setup.

stampedeproject 11.28.2007 03:39 PM

As far as batteris go I have one A123 pack mounted on the inside and one hanging on the outside. I will post pics later.

jhautz 11.28.2007 11:59 PM

Looks great Jamie. The forward tranny setup is something I'm looking forward to seeing. I would love to find a setup that allows the placement of the lipos inside the tvps and still uses the 2 speed tranny and mechanical brakes. When that is relaesed I will for sure be picking it up for my Savy.

Nice work!

MTBikerTim 11.29.2007 12:35 AM

I'm hoping mike will put the option of having mechanical brakes on his mount as well. I'm tempted if both flm and mike produce mounts to build 2 brushless savages. A racer and a basher could work well.

squeeforever 11.29.2007 12:58 AM

Tim, I don't see what your saying. Maybe theres something I'm missing? The mount won't have anything to do with the brakes, similar to a Revo.

Serum 11.29.2007 02:32 AM

he's talking about the centerdiff conversion..

Fast Lane 11.29.2007 11:09 AM

For the steering servo mount: yes there will still be a brace that connects the steering tubes to the tvps.

Right now the forward tranny tvp will be based off the Ext LCG TVP. I am sure we will offer one for the non ext. But I will like to first see how things go with this one.

We designed the pictured tvp the way we did to keep cost low. For one if you had or ext tvps you would only need the one side and mount. But due to battery issues we proceeded to the forward tranny tvp.

I will try to post some pics tonight.

pullstarter 11.29.2007 04:04 PM

Thanks for the info, the new stuff looks great :intello:

Thanks serum that's what I meant.

This will be a great setup, Jamie. Can't wait to see what FLM comes up with in the end.

MTBikerTim 12.04.2007 10:11 PM

Any news on the mount?

knotted 12.05.2007 07:34 AM

Everyones been very quiet on it, Tim. Jamie and Mike aren't even answering e-mails on it. I hope the project didn't fall through, especially Mike's center diff conversion.

stampedeproject 12.05.2007 11:59 AM

I will speak up here.

The reality is that it's the middle of the Holiday rush for all of these guys and they probably don't have a free second to answer questions about a product that probably won't be out until next year.

While talking with Jamie on a FLM Savage article I am doing, he mentioned that that my above posted picture was a minimal investment for new and existing customers. The new solution would require two new chassis plates and a few other parts - in essence it will be a much more expensive solution.

On the Center Diff conversion, that it slick, but could again be a more expensive option.

The real question is how much would you pay for either of those options over the regular conversion as posted?

My weight distribution on the posted conversion is really pretty good with a slightly rearward CG when loaded with a motor and dual A123 4600 packs. I just don't think it's going to be that much better. I would say if I was to pick what Jamie worked on next it would be a Center Diff kit not the other front mounted transmission option.

MTBikerTim 12.06.2007 12:28 AM

Good to hear it is still being looked at. I would be happy if the the chassis plates and engine mount were between $56 (current price for the extended chassis) and $100. It is going to need new dog bones and braces as well. Going from FLM's prices I think the cost of it won't be that much of an issue. Not compared to the brushless gear. If FLM realease this kit with everything and the MMM or tekin setups ever come out, brushless savage conversions will become common place. They will be a far better setup than an e-savage and I think a lot of e-savage owners would upgrade to the real savage converted. I can see a lot of new k4.6's on ebay in the future.

Fast Lane 12.10.2007 10:15 PM

We have some pics up of the Tranny Forward design on our site www.fastlanemachine.com. I believe it will accept any lipo battery available? I have the kit on its way to Mike so he can do some testing with it to confirm the batteries and anything that would need to be changed.

MTBikerTim 12.10.2007 10:32 PM

Thanks for posting and the update. That's awesome. You can bet that I will be one of your first customers on this. I am putting together my FLM mid tanked nitro savage at the moment and I like it a lot. Should be good to see it too after mike kits it out. Can't wait.

jhautz 12.11.2007 01:11 AM

:intello:The trany forward is the design I have been waiting for. How do I preorder.:mdr:

Any word on pricing yet?

Fast Lane 12.11.2007 01:51 AM

The price is set at $140.00.

The kit includes everything to do the conversion from the tvps, battery hold down, motor mount, drive shafts, servo plate, screws and anything necessary to do an effortless conversion.

BlackedOutREVO 12.11.2007 02:32 AM

Any plans for a center diff set up?

Or is it just the stock tranny?

Either way, its SWEEEEEEEET

jnev 12.11.2007 02:40 AM

That thing looks killer!! Nice job FLM!!

What's_nitro? 12.11.2007 02:49 AM

Is does look great FLM, but don't you think that battery in the pictures is a little too big? It's practically hitting the spur gear! The slipper nut appears to be resting on top of the battery... Is it just a HUGE pack? I can't make out the writing on it.

Fast Lane 12.11.2007 03:00 AM

As for the center diff setup: that one is in Mikes hands. If he wants to incorporate it into this design that is up to him. He came up with it first so we will leave it alone.

The pics on our site show the Forward Tranny design. Which will accept any battery. We are still trying to decide if we should offer a low budget conversion like the one pictured on this thread. The only draw back is battery limitations. The Forward Tranny will require no mods and will accept all Lipo cells.

So the chassis pictured under the "low budget conversion" is different from the one above it? They appear mostly identical to me. Do you have pictures of the tranny-forward chassis fully assembled onto the truck? Will the TF chassis have a longer wheelbase to allow for more clearance in that area? It just doesn't seem like that chassis can accept any size LiPo battery unless the one pictured is as big as they come. I'm not trying to bash you guys here, you make some really great products for R/C. I just can't see that setup being dependable with the battery placed so close to moving parts like that.

In the tranny forward design it says that the tranny is moved forward 1.5 inches. That would give an additional 1.5 inches of space between the battery and the the spur. That should be plenty. I dont think its is longer than the low budget version, it just moves the tranny forward into the dead space in front of the tranny. look at the pictures you will see the dead space.

I was talking to Mike today about this new tranny forward design and he tells me that it is setup to have about 7 inches of battery space. This shoud be long enough for even the longer style 5000mah flightpower packs. He hasnt seen the latest version yet, but will be getting a setup from Jamie at FLM in the next day or so to check out and confirm the battery clearances and all before FLM releases them.

I for one think that this is a very slick conversion kit. Simple effective and keeps the lipos between the rails where they are protected. I will for sure be switching my Savage over to this configuration as soon as its released.

Jamie/Mike, A few questions...

Is there a spot intended to be used as an ESC mount? looks like there is room behind the motor possibly.

Also, where does the brake servo mount? I cant tell, is it still up front by the steering servo? Or is this intended to be run with a single speed locked tranny. Just wondering cuz I like to run the 2 speed and mechanical brake on my savage and would want to see a place to put the brake servo.

Also, is this an extended wheelbase from the stock length? Would it be possible to move it all farther forward with an exended wheelbase?

As for the low budget conversion... If you are going brushless, my opinion is you better not be to worried about budget or dont even bother. At this point the $140 kit you are offering is still one of the cheapest componenets of the conversion. Saveing $50 to have a marginal chassis setup is not move I would consider. But you know the market better than me, There may be a crowd out there for it.

Yes I can see the dead space there. It just looks like the tranny mounts on the two chassis' are in the same place with respect to F/R placement. I'm not a Savage know-all so it would help to see a TF chassis with the tranny installed. I will eventually buy a MT and it will probably be a Savage because I like their reputation for durability.

cemetery gates 12.11.2007 04:50 PM

This looks great! I'm really interested in one. I have a savage roller just sitting here with the intent to convert it and it looks like I'll get this kit. Any ETA yet?

Thanks! :mdr:

dabid 12.11.2007 09:49 PM

It looks very nice, and just in time for my Savage that just got running after a year of sitting in the garage. I'll be looking forward to one when they're released.

Good questions. I was wondering about the first 2 too. I am fairly sure this chassis is based around the extended chassis. It definitely looks like it. At the right rear of the chassis there are things that look like servo mounts but are on the wrong side and don't have 2 holes.

Fast Lane 12.12.2007 01:33 AM

I will have some pics of the fully assembled truck sometime tomorrow.

To answer a few questions:
There is a servo plate up front that will hold the steering and brake servos.
The standoff you see on the one side is for a speed control plate.

MTBikerTim 12.12.2007 02:32 AM

That's good news. Thanks for the answers too. Can't wait to see it built.

knotted 12.12.2007 07:46 AM

Mike was going to get a kit to test it. Is he going to post a review?

WOW!!! Looks sweet!

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that kit!

Any pictures that show the battery fit in the back by the motor.

Fast Lane 12.13.2007 11:03 PM

I hope these help showing what you want to see.
