Neu 1515, 1Y on 5s

Is somebody can tell me if a Neu 1515 1Y (2200Kv) is safe on 5s (18.5v)???

Thank you!

lincpimp 12.22.2007 12:14 AM

I am sure that the motor can handle it 40k rpm should be fine on a good motor like that, question is can your vehicle handle the insane power:gasp:

david lamontagn 12.22.2007 12:42 AM

Yaaaaaaaaa:lol: In a Mugen MBX5 buggy:yes:

wow, you need to buy stock in buggy tires, and diffs!

mkrusedc 12.22.2007 01:14 AM

David,
If you try it post temps and gearing. I would be interested.

Somes run it in revo, and you know that the revo drive train is alot more fragile that an 1/8 scale buggy, so i'am confident:intello:

No problems, but it will be next summer, because right now here in Quebec, Canada, we have 3 feet of fuc... snow:whistle:

:mdr:

it's fine... it'll be a perfect setup...

riceman 12.22.2007 11:56 AM

I was running this combo about a year ago in an LST2. I've since gone to 4S.

Why??

aqwut 12.22.2007 03:09 PM

:rofl:maybe too much power?...

riceman 12.22.2007 05:55 PM

5S was a little tough on the Mamba Max I am running. 4S and gearing up gave me what I needed for the tracks I run on.

That thing looked fast down the straight! I love watching big rc trucks in nitro, and then watch them BL, they go from slow sluggy things, to peppy trucks lol

david lamontagn 12.22.2007 07:01 PM

I've order the MBX5T pinion and ring gear to put in my MBX5 buggy, so with this lower gear ratio, i'll probably try it on 5s.

In my revo running 16/38 gearing and wide ratio 2nd in revo tranny temps are @ 115 or less depending on ambient temps.

Serum 12.23.2007 10:15 AM

It would have been even faster with a pack that held the voltage better, such as the maxamps 8000 packs, they tend to hold their voltage much better than the relative weak 6000 packs.

that's probably due to their over rated specs.. maybe?

What's your setup?

neu 1515 1Y / mgm 16018 / flightpower evo25 5s 4900mah

david lamontagn 12.24.2007 11:25 PM

OK, have you experiment the Low Voltage Cutoff who kick too early on your 16018 with your setup??
Somes guys here have had this trouble, but somes suspect the quality of the batt.

thank you!

I'm not sure if I'm just lucky but I have not had a problem with the LVC on my controller. I have been able to take up to 4500mah out of my pack just during general bashing. I have been wanting to do a test run through a large field of tall grass to see how fast I can dump the pack and see if the high stress kicks in the LVC sooner. If I get a chance I'll do this and let you know the outcome.

I do not have a data logger (just not in the budget ATM) so I cannot provide any hard data. I have run both the 5s evo25 4900 and a pair of Trakpower 2s 4900mah 20c gold bricks with good results. I seem to get about 3 -5 minutes less runtime from the gold bricks then I do when running them in my novak 6.5 emaxx system. However I figure that would be normal since the novak is maybe 550 watts and the neu is @ 1500 watts. Perhaps one of the guys who know the math for these things can confirm or deny this?

I think that at least some of the problems that others have reported were caused by the way that this controller handles the voltage cutoff (not a hard set value like other LVC's) combined with their batteries ability to provide sustained voltage levels throughout the discharge period. This is of course purely speculation without knowing specific setups, battery types, etc.

The only issue I seem to have with my controller is that the freewheel function does not seem to work properly... aside from that it really is a nice setup that runs very cool.

It finally stopped raining for a couple of days so I had a chance to test the LVC today. I took the revo out to a large grass field and ran it WOT around the 125 yard x 50 yard until the cutoff kicked in.

Testing was in a revo with 1515 1Y, mgm 16018, flightpower 5s 5000mah evo25.

Runtime was @ 9 minutes mostly WOT only slowing enough to turn without rolling over.

I did not bring my temp gun but the motor was just slightly warm to the touch and the controller was cool.

The pack took 4638mah to recharge.

I think the LVC is working properly on my controller as any further discharge would like produce a noticeable voltage drop and loss of performance.

Hope this helped answer your questions somewhat.

david lamontagn 01.01.2008 01:30 AM

Wow!! can't ask better response:yipi:
But you are in 5s, me i'am in FP EVO25 4s, so i suppose i'll have little less runtime.
Do you have your trannylock in second?? And do you have stock diffs in your revo?

Thank you very much!!
It's very appreciated.

David

True I am running 5s but that is how the thread started. :)

Yes the stock revo tranny is locked in second (robinson std ratio) and stock revo diffs at least until I kill them.

david lamontagn 01.01.2008 10:44 AM

OK thank you, but you use the steel Robinson gear in your tranny and have lock it in second:gasp: How have you did to lock the second gear in this hardened steel gear????? Have you tap and thread in the steel gear?

Just go Play 01.01.2008 07:24 PM

I had a friend who works in a machine shop tap the gear for me. Then I used some red thread locker to secure it.

My friend did mention that the cheap tap that he initially tried to use did not work.
