Neu 1515 1y

It is almost time to order the motor for my e-revo project. This Friday my wife releases the first round of 2008's RC budget to me. I want to get a Neu 1515 1Y. Mike shows out of stock on them. I have mailed him and sent a PM last week with no response asking if he would be able to hunt one down.

If anyone talks to Mike could you guys ask him about it? I really want to give RC-M my money based on previous experience.

Also will a 1515 1y/s with rc-m heatsink be the same as a 1515 1y/f? I would assume so, but figured I'd ask before I spend a good chuck of my budget.

The smooth can neus will not fit the RCM heatsink, they are a different diameter.

DickyT 01.14.2008 11:33 AM

Thanks, I was unaware of that. In the event I have to get a smooth can is there a heat sink that does fit them?

austinmaxx 01.14.2008 11:49 AM

I got a 1515/1y from Impakt and have one from Mike here that should be here today ...keep checking both sites and order as soon as you see it in stock ...they go fast...still waiting for the MGM controllers to come in ...order those fast too.....lol

I found a smooth can 1515 1y, I will buy tomorrow when I get my round 1 budget from wife. Are there any known heat sinks that will fit or will heat on 4s and occasionally 5s geared 17/38 just not be an issue?

Not sure if there are, but ask Mike to see if he can mill you one?

I run my 1515 1Y on 5s geared 16/38 and the motor has never been warm enough to worry about needing a heat sink.

What do you run it in? I run mine on 5s with the REvo spur on the slipperential geat mod 1 with a 16t pinion. gets warm, but nothing to worry about as well. and that is on a 95*F day.

I thought that might be the case. the main reason I spent the cash for a 1515 and did not get an 8xl or 9xl ;)

I'm running it in a 3.3 revo with the stock tranny locked in 2nd.

mkrusedc 01.18.2008 11:23 PM

Dicky looking back at my temps I don't you need anything. That was heavy bashing on 4s in an E-Maxx.

DickyT 01.18.2008 11:56 PM

that's cool. I'll accept 150 as my threshold. If it goes over that during the summer I'll worry about a cooling solution.

DickyT 01.22.2008 02:19 PM

My motor just arrived as well as the pinion and rear dust cap. My question now is do i need to get that front cover/mounting plate that Mike sells or will it be protected enough my the motor mount?

neweuser 01.22.2008 02:23 PM

You can, your motor should be fine for awhile. I however went to the hardware store and pciked up a thin sheet of aluminum and cut my own cover. It's thinner and nto as nice, but works for the purpose.

DickyT 01.22.2008 02:50 PM

If I were to buy the rc-m plate does the motor have enough shaft length to work with the rc-m motor mount and revo tranny? I drive in very dusty and sometimes sandy conditions. or mud....

neweuser 01.22.2008 03:02 PM

I would think so, but the plate is 4mm in width I believe, so you should be able to measure. If not, use my idea. :)

DickyT 01.22.2008 03:07 PM

if not i will use your idea, but i only have hand tools and a dremel so it would be ugly at best. I'll measure when i get home unless someone else chimes in before i leave then I'll send Mike some more money.

bdebde 01.22.2008 03:11 PM

Mikey likes money! lol. I made my own motor mount, so I made it with small enough holes so it covers the holes in the end of the Neus. Of course any motors that have a flange sticking out won't work in the mount.

jhautz 01.22.2008 03:48 PM

I like the front cover for Neu motors. I use them on all of mine. The Neus have a longer shaft than most other motors to begin with so the 4mm you give up with the spacer is not a big deal at all.

Great info, thank you. Do you have one in a Revo with Mikes mount?

I know I have get home and measure it, but I feel like a 5 year old on x-mas with this motor sitting on my desk. sorry for 10 billion questions. i just want to make sure i get this setup right. It is my first non MM combo bl setup.

jhautz 01.22.2008 04:40 PM

No not in a RC-monster revo and not a 1515/1y

But all of the Neu motor shaft lengths are the same and they are more than long enough for any application I have ever seen.

DickyT 01.22.2008 04:56 PM

what the heck, it's only $12 if it doesn't work and supports Mike albeit very little. order placed. thanks guys.

DickyT 01.22.2008 05:01 PM

ok one last question for today. will 3x10 screws be good for mounting? I have a ton of them and will not need a trip to LHS or should I go longer/shorter?

neweuser 01.22.2008 05:03 PM

going into the mount? or to mount the plate to the motor?

DickyT 01.22.2008 05:05 PM

going form rc-m motor mount to motor until the plate gets here. and then mount to plate after it arrives. the plate comes with counter sunk screws to mount to motor. I just don't want to go too long and have screws touch coils or too short and not be held on tight.

jhautz 01.22.2008 05:18 PM

I' not sure how thick the revo mount is but if it shouldnt go into the motor any more than 3mm or so. Once you get the plate on the motor you will have a little more leway because it adds 4mm to the depth of the motor holes.

DickyT 01.22.2008 05:26 PM

I guess I'll go to the lhs and pick up some 3x8's just to be safe. I need heli blades anyway.

Actually, I think you can go up to 5mm depth on the Neu motors.

Patrick 01.22.2008 10:14 PM

Yeah I think mine go in about 5mm. The holes in the front of the new are big enough that you can pretty much see if the screw is going to hit the windings or if the screw is all the way through the thread.
I put the screw in by hand (just the motor, not on the mount) as far as it thought was safe then measured how far in it had gone. I also measured how far in it needed to go to use all of the thread. Then you know the range of screws you can use.
Put the screw through your mount and measure how far out it sticks (how far it's going to go into your motor).
Find a screw that's in the safe range for the motor.

DickyT 01.22.2008 11:27 PM

Well, a question was answered. I do need a dust cover for the front too.
