8xl to hot under 22/54 gearing ?

Hi !

I have a question about heat and gearing of feigao motors !

Why does my 8xl get way hotter with 22/58 gearing than 22/54 gearing ? choudent a lower gearing make it run cooler and lower the ampdraw ? My mm-esc bearly get's warm after 20min runs but the motor gets way hotter ! maybe 60-70 celsius, but it runs cool on the higher gearing! 20-40celsius

Another question: Will my e-maxx be to heavy with 2x2s 12000mah lipo's ?
by that i meen if it will break easely or feel slugish beacause of the weight of the battery's ?

It might be going faster and you might be giving less throttle? TBH I would love to know that as well. I'm not stealing your thread btw. If Feigao likes to run big pinions, I will have to get my 22 or even 30T pinion out for a spin .

no i give about the same amount of throttle with both gearing config's :) mabe a litle more with the higer gearing because the ttruck accelerates slower with that gearing :intello:

General rule if everything is cold and the motor is hot you need to gear up. This is exactly what you are seeing. You need to get a bigger pinion by the look of it.

Bigger pinion or smaller spur... or both. That could be difficult though.

it runs fine with 22/54 gearing  i just wondered why the motor get's hotter with a lower gearing !!

It's because the motor is running at a higher rpm/lower 'load', which is exactly what the Feigao's don't like. They are quite limited in this regard, as you only have a narrow range of gearing options.
