Get hot.....No brakes!
 
I've got a TXT-1 monster truck with a 9L/9918 combo,the truck weighs 14lbs with 14 cells and geared 65t spur 16t pinion for topspeed running.Recently after 3 passes the controller temp hit 170 and it had no brakes,after slowing down reverse is there but still no brakes.Because the batteries were dead I called it quits.The next day before taking it out I reprogramed the controller,and everything was back to normal.But once the controller hit 165 degrees again no brakes.After cooling down I drove it and had brakes again.Throughout all this the truck never thermaled.Is this odd? Are these temps TOO high for this controller? Thanks for any info.

I have this problem somtimes. But when i unplug the batteries, and then plug them back in, the brakes are restored. The breaks only go out in the forward motion. The reverse brakes always work.

This 'unplug then replug' is temperary,correct? What about long term? Is there a solution?

i would put a fan on it and or change the gearing.

The TXT-1 is pretty heavy and I would go for 14 teeth pinion to increase torque since this truck is a rock climbing machine that needs huge amounts of torque and the drive train is made to meet such applications . Use a cooling fan, too, like Squeeforever suggested and REMEMBER that the TXT-1 is a super heavy truck that is not suitable for racing. Enjoy crawling, RCJMAXX.

This TXT has never seen a day of rockcrawling.I built it for topspeed running from day one thats why I choose the 16t pinion.I just got a 14T in the mail from Mike that I will be trying out.Since so many of you mentioned a cooling fan,that will be my next move.

You should have checked the truck before buying it. It is not near the E-maxx in terms of speed and pace. Though I have neither of them, the design of the chassis and drive train give you a clear idea about each truck and if you want speed, then you should've gone with the Maxx unless you want to pull the TXT-1 into a level of speed that it can't reach with out a decent powerplant which is the brushless setup that is.

I own both an Emaxx and a TXT-1.I agree with you that the TXT-1 is not designed for "Emaxx type" duty,but I do enjoy the challenge.As I stated earlier I will adjust the gearing and add cooling fans to see if these help.
