New monster truck rules for world's fastest r/c challenge
Here are the new rules for MT's in this year's world's fastest r/c challenge. I figure a few of you guys here would be interested in these changes. Looks like no more wheely king touring cars allowed. :lol:

i'm glad they made some changes, but i'd like to see a few more like suspension travel, ground clearence, and other things that'll identify it as a monster truck.

Good news. I think there will be alot more entries this year, and no doubt half of them V-twins from the traxxas forum....
As for suspension travel & all, I think its best not to make those areas too regulated, since the best way to make an MT go fast is to slam it to the ground and tiptie the suspension, a la JonnyMaxxima style. I know what you mean though- I woud hate to see a 1/8 TC being passed off as an MT just because its got 40series roadrages mounted, lol. |
It's good that they made some rules for the MT class to stop what happened last year, but I think they should have made the minimum tire width a few mm less, because LPR's might have been a good speed run tire (probably not as good as the phaltlines though), but mine are only 68mm wide, not 70mm, so they wouldn't be legal.

If they had those rules last year, Johnny wouldn't have been able to compete as a monster - he had a touring car body.
My Savage will be competing this year, and I'm planning on meeting all of those guidlines :yes:. |

This is good news for the guys who will bring real trucks. I will see if Mike can have my chassis done before the event and I might run with a 1/8 scale truggy and a buggy. I have a company who is waiting for the chassis to be done so they can supply me with a couple of 22.2v 5000mAh packs.

Sweet ride you had last year John. Hope to make it this year. If the MMM comes out soon, I hope to run twins.:mdr: I am actually building a second MRC like the one pictured below. It will run all rpm arms, steel tranny/diff gears, 40 series road rages out back, droped/stiffend suspension. It's 1/8 scale but hope to come in at 10lbs or better.

I like the new rules...but I do agree it should be 4WD... What was the record last year?.. 5th scale size are allowed as well?...

Does there have to be any "stock" element to this... I'm thinking FLM extended stampede chassis / Extended arms - with ceramic bearings - LARGE direct drive outrunner 400-500kv on 6S lipo - with 130 foam tires.

I like the pede idea. Maybe use a small brushed motor with a airplane gearbox to a small wheel to get it all moving. Mount it on the back like a wheelie bar, you could even spring load it so that the torque of the motor holds it to the ground under power and when you let off it clears the ground. That way you could start the outrunner when it is moving, say around 5mph. That would cure the startup issues and whining when you win.
If you were to use a wheely bar, this could be built in to the center of it. Just a thought... |
The only thing that might be a little hard is keeping it from lifting off. I only took my Stampede to 45MPH and if I gave it some more throttle it would start lifting off the ground.

That aero/weight though - You can mount at least one battery under the chassis at the other well forward...
Also no gearbox just a motor so will be lighter at the rear... I would also be dropped to 5mm off the ground... |
