hmmmm I want to enter the touring car part of R/C help me decide
I just posted this over at the traxxas forum, but I decided to post he since you guys seem to know more what your talking about.:yes:
Well, I'll admit I do have a certain soft spot for street cars. I really enjoy offroading with my rusty and E-Revo but there is no track for them that is less than an hour away. On the other hand, there is a touring car track only 10 minutes away! I do like how you can make touring cars look soooo awesome that you have to constantly wipe the drool off so I decided to try one out. Only one prob. I dont know jack about touring cars. I dont know how to gear them, I really dont know who the good brands are, I dont know which ones are for beginners...I dont even know how the weird body sizing works! I'm basically looking for a car (sorry traxxas) that would be competitive out of the box, reasonably priced ($150 or less for a kit since I'll use my mamba from my rusty in it), has good aftermarket/manufacturer support, and is pretty sturdy. The TT-01's suck. They are great for a basher or drifter but not really great for racing other then maybe stock. The TT-01 has very little adjustment compared to the other cars. After the first race you will probably be left wanting something better.
Saying that the TT-01 is cheap and can be a good start but I'd say go a slightly more up market model. Are you going to run brushless? |
I was planning to bash brushless (mamba 5700) and race brushed since mambas really arent leagal lol
What cars would you suggest then? |

Try out the cyclone s or the ta05 depending on what spare parts your hobby shop stocks. I recommend the cyclone s. It's a great chassis with a body and race winning cyclone geometry for 155 bucks.

Cyclones RULE!
You can find them used with spares all ready to race for 250 (which is your racings, its a good idea!) Cyclone S is good, but the shocks on it blow, other then that its good |
This is just like anything else - you have to think about how serious you want to be with it. I have a TT-01 R with a Mamba 4900 on 3s and it's awesome for me. But then again, I don't race. I just do some drifting and outdoor driving.

Its actually a pretty good time to buy a used 2007 model of any company. Lots of people are dumping perfectly competitive tc's just so they can upgrade to the 08 versions. I recently got my hands on a near new corally rdx w/ enough spares to rebuild the entire car, and 3 EP 4200 nimh packs for $200 shipped. You could probably get a good used T2 for around $150. Defintely check out the rctech forums for touring cars. That site seems to have the largest pool of serious TC racers of any forum.

Yup, that's the one.
And I feel X-ray is the best if your rich. You don't have to get a new kit every 8 months, it's just they do it like madden, you buy a new one when you feel there are substantial enough changes. But truth to be honest, at the level us non pro's get too, we probably will never be able to feel the true differences between most these cars,s o go on price, durability, reliability, ease of maintenance, and tunability. |
