UBEC or reciver pack?
Well, we found out my thermalling was the BEC getting too hot. So, we pulled the jumper and it ran fine on a AA receiver pack. Obviously, that is just for testing.
So the question is, UBEC or receiver pack. I'm leaning towards UBEC because of the simplicity and small size. My son wants to go receiver pack because it costs less and does not draw from the motor batteries. So what do you all think? If we go receiver pack, how many runs can I expect to get out of it? If UBEC, how much does it draw from the motor packs? Thanks, Chris |
UBEC!! You won't notice any difference in runtime. And the main advantage is weight!
The Koolflight UBEC is not that expensive, IMHO. And I never heard of people having problems with it. I like its small size, too. One less thing to charge. |
UBEC, for sure. It draws a small amount from the batteries, and this amount could lead to maybe 20sec. less run time. A receiver pack won't last forever, and will need to be replaced. The extra weight will put more stress on your vehicle (not much though :)).

I have one built by MetalMan in my 9.5, works great. It was pretty cheap too, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind posting the parts needed to make your own.
