sidewinder can it handle?
i have a truggy coming and i'm thinking about moving my mamba max to it from my ls10. right now the ls10 is running the mm,10l feigao, 5s2p a123 1100's. i've been thinking about letting my daughter take over the ls10 once i get the truggy going. to keep it cheap.....ish, i was thinking about maybe just ordering a sidewinder. do you think it can handle the 10l in that truck, and the 5s2p or should i maybe drop to 4s2p. i wouldn't mind dropping voltage since my daughter doesn't need that much speed anyways. also, i guess i can turn the punch control way up and set the top speed and effecientcy for less amp draw too.

Well to be honest I havent really read much about people testing the limits of the sidewinder. First experiment would be to see if it arms on 5s a123. It might not due to overvoltage. Then 4s a123 would be your only option.
If that works then I would start with some very conservative settings on the gearing, punch control and timing. You could slowly work them up untill you start to see the temps rise in the sidewinder. I would think that you should be able to make this work. The ls10 isnt that heavy of a truck and mine always ran stone cold on the MM. |
i don't know if i'll get it if nobodies tried it yet. alot less hassle just getting another mm, or just waiting and getting the mmm if its coming within a month for the truggy.

I would say the sidewinder would be ok with a low kv motor on 3s. Something around 30mph or less. I would only do 4s in a 2lbs car with that esc. LHS said that someone blew the sidewinder on the first pull of the trigger. I don't really know the details of the setup though.

I have a Sidewinder in my B44 with a 5700 and running matched packs. I don't think I'd push it to 4s even without some cooling. I even wonder what 3s on the 5700 would do without cooling. I think take it for what it is, a super inexpensive brushless setup for 1/10 racing that fits in a smaller space than the mm. 4S on the MM is pushing it's limits, so if the SW is 60% capable.... I know a lot of guys push things to the limit, but for performance it's better to have too much headroom than too little... besides, I am very superstitious (born Friday the 13th) and letting the genie out is bad voodoo

CC says on their website not to use the 5700 with 3s on the sidewinder. The 5700 is ok for 2s, and the 4600 is ok for 3s.
Also, I think the Sidewinder is less capable than the MM only in amperage, not in voltage. I think it should run fine on 4s as long as the amp draw is low. Btw, I was born on Friday 13th, too! lol |
