That spur gear didn't last long...
 

A couple of weeks ago I stripped the RRP spur gear that I have been using in my 9L brushless E-Maxx for a while now. As it's almost impossible to get aftermarket E-Maxx spur gears over here in the UK, I decided to try a stock one.

I bought the Traxxas slipper rings, pegs, and a couple of 66T spurs. I fitted one, set the mesh, and cranked the slipper down tight. The spur had a bit of 'wobble' in the rotation, but the RRP one didn't sit true either, so I wasn't too concerned. I fitted the stock gear cover as well to try and reduce the chance of a small rock getting caught. I took the truck out for a run, and it was going great for 2 minutes. Then the truck slowed, and started making a grinding noise. I brought the truck over, took the body off, and saw lots of small pieces of black plastic on the chassis around the tranny. There was the smell of melted plastic, and even a bit of smoke coming out of the spare motor plate opening!

Needless to say, the stock spur had smoked itself. I was just surprised at the amount of damage that had been caused in such a short amount of time, even with it fully tightened! :L:

Once the Ofna nylon 51 tooth spur gears are in stock, I will order a Strobe kit. I'm running 15/66 at the moment, so 12/51 should be OK. I also bought a Revo a couple of weeks ago, and the tuning 'issues' I am already experiencing with it will keep me occupied until then... :rolleyes:

Ive had one for months now, with little or no wear on the spur at all.

don't forget the Sprong either ;)

that Sprong won't work on a gmaxx chassis..

Would the sprong work if he just used an e-maxx motor plate?

Serum, I sure would like to see a pic of the underside of your Savage.Is it a whole plate with the sides bent up or are they just plastic buggy thingemyjigs?

Is there a pic on line somewhere i could check out?

Also, i've still got the BigMaxx and shulze.I was wondering whether to just e-bay the controller and try the motor with the 160amp MGM on 16 cells.
Did you think the motor itself was any good or should i just sell them both?

What exactly is the 'sprong', and what does it do?

The sprong replaces the stock spring. It also when tightend helps to keep the sur from woobeling.

It replaces the slipper spring, and I was told it holds the tension better (locknot stays in place longer)

It replaces the waffty spring on the slipper.
It stops wonky spur syndrome and gives somewhat better control of the slipper.

you will have to moddify the gear cover if you use it. :)
