Need some build input????
 

Hey all, I’m in the process of converting my nitro Tmaxx to electric and could use some input with my setup. First off, I’m running a UE nitro (thunder) extended chassis that I’ve equipped with a gorilla modified emaxx tranny. Anyway I’m considering different options to mount the batteries. Obviously I can strap a pair of lipos on the sides, run them in series and be on my way. But I’ve been thinking about maybe going with a single pack, mounted horizontally across the rear of the chassis. The UE chassis is fairly long and it appears from this mock-up that I should have plenty of room. I kind of dig the single pack approach as I can run 5s without jumping from 4s to 6s running two packs in series. Thoughts with this single pack approach as seen below (mockup batt obviously):

Also, I have an issue with my wheel hex’s. I run the UE CVD’s that use a “special 14mm wheel hex keyed to the axles”. In other words, the wheel hex does not use the conventional dowel pin and instead uses hex screws to lock to the axle. Anyway, I want to run 17mm (or even 23mm) wheels but the adapters I got leverage the traditional dowel pin approach. Any thoughts here? Are there 17/23mm adapters that fit over 14mm hex's for example?

And lastly, my old tmaxx tranny is actually longer (output shaft) then the emaxx tranny. Anyway, my existing front dogbone that came with the thunder chassis is too short. I believe I need the standard Emaxx 72mm size, but in a dogbone. RCM doesn’t seem to have any available on the webstore. Anybody know where I can get one?

Input you require, input you shall get.

Ideally you will need a front dogone that is 72mm or shorter, more like 68-70mm since the UE diffs use an 8mm pinion shaft, which is longer and sticks out further than the stock emaxx type does. You have a few options, such as a custom made item from mike, or use the 3.3spec center ( perish the thought ), or have a dig around parts listings for various dogbons until you chance across one the right length....

The battery mounting idea seems fine, and i have seen several that use that idea for mounting either lipos, A123 bricks etc- just need to know the dimensions of the lipo you will use, make cardboard bummy battery and take it from there to design your mount.

the hex issue is a well known one, but thankfully I think DACE or someone similar has produced some adaptors specifically for those type of CVDS... only trouble is I cant remember the trhread they were mentioned in!

You could however easily just use something like THIS for 14 > 23mm. I have also seen 14 > 17mm adaptors that just sit ontop of the 14mm hex... again I cant remember where though but as always googling should turn up the answer.

The 14 – 17mm slip-over adapters would be perfect, considering I already purchased a set of 17mm rims and glued some new tires too them already (doah). :no:
