Novak HV with 5mm shaft and 3a HV UBEC

What benifits would you get if you upgraded the HV4.5 or 6.5 motor with the 5mm shaft and added the 3a High Voltage UBEC?

There is added strength of the 5mm shaft. The description Max Operationg Temp 180c is that more then before? Does it allow the motor to be run hotter?

Current e-maxx recommended Final Gear Ratio

7 cell 28.6:1
Both second gear

The UBEC is rated up to 26.4 volts. I understand using the BEC will insure your servo is operating at 6v and help with esc heat. What would be the benifit of running say a 5s on the HV. Wouldn't you need to gear it down even more then the current recommendation to run more voltage?

Are there any other benifits of these upgrades? Would running the UBEC help with my spontanious combustion problems?

The 5mm shaft is much beefier and will help prevent snapping if too much lateral force is exerted on the shaft.

The UBEC is nice for several reasons:

1) It removes all the load off the internal BEC
2) Like you said, a UBEC reduces heat
3) A UBEC actually improves runtime slightly due to the switching nature.
4) Most internal BECs run at only 5v, limiting servo speed and power. Most UBECs are 6v.
5) Since the HV BEC runs off only one of the packs, the pack connected to the internal BEC would be discharged deeper than the other one. A UBEC, being connected across both packs, discharges both packs equally.

Not sure if the HV ESC can even run on 5s, but if it does, I would use the 6.5 motor if anything.

Not sure about your spontaneous combustion issue. It's not that common or proven. Or, do you mean your vehicle's spontaneous combustion problem?  Anyway, unless you know what caused your issues, it's gonna be hard to say what will work to keep them from happening. As a start, I'd gear down more and watch temps closely. If everything runs cool under normal running, gear up slowly.

Thanks Brian, big help again.

You might of been out when the second one went up. Here's the thread

Not positive what caused them both to go up in smoke. One I hadn't even ran it all day. Just replaced the front diff.

I just quickly read through that post - I guess I did miss it.

If both ESCs burned the same way, I would take a good look at everything before hooking up another ESC of any kind.

Are any motor wires touching (or have any exposed areas that could touch?

Is your wiring correct? I assume you are running dual 2s packs and each is hooked seperately to the ESC?

Yeah everything was fine. Both the evo and the flm maxx were running great. Right in the sweet spot for the HV. Hadn't made any signicant changed to either for a week or two prior. On one I added a second Novak cap to it. I added it to the battery lines and not to the board. Had four or five runs under it's belt with no problems. Since they went out I have been running the MM and NEU 1515 1y in the revo and trying the MM with a HV4.5 motor in the FLM Maxx. They haven't blown up yet but I am running ext BEC with them. I was nervous for a week after everytime I plugged that batteries in. One thought by one of the guys that the speedo was drawing current but wasn't passing it on and that was related to the new Spektrum DX3R that I had just got a few weeks before. Said he had a coulple customers with the exact same thingl. Transmitter is really is the only common thing between the two. I run a 4s w/ 2, 2s 6400 TrueRC or 2, 2s 6000 maxamps in either one. Always balance then and always the same two together. Just depends on which set was charged. I was planning on contacting novak about it here soon. Was waiting to see if they are covered under the warrenty. Both of them were remanufactured esc I got from sending in two other esc. One I screwed up thremalled and didn't see the axle was binding. The other was the same thing except it was moving when it went up. I know I think Niel called AAngle syndrom or something. But both of these esc were less then 120 days (one was 115). So fairly new. I don't even know if I want to try them I might just sell them as soon as they get here. But one probably would do good in the truggy I thinking about doing. Any way thanks for the help.
