Life changing events
Thought I would share some gore with you all :lol: in hopes of scoring a butler monkey :party:
These are the photo's of the aftermath of an arguement I recently had with a tablesaw. I got into the thumb and pointer finger pretty good, chopped about 1/8" off the nuckle end of my middle finger bone ( read no more nuckle function ), and now I think I'll have to close the door on my mobile mechanics business. Luatch, I apreciate the feeling :) where exactly do you live? I've been curious for some time now, I see the "only in brazil" in your avitar, but also get the impression you are here in the US ? jokerjustin, I'm confident they will, it's just a question of how and when... I have used the spare time I've got latley to get back into some cad drafting of idea's I've got. I'll post up some stuff when it's been sent off to the pattent office for review (just starting the patent process gets me some protection against the idea's being stolen). Two of the ideas will be rooted in the RC field as they are easier to model in scale and should upgrade what's out there now. The first one I'm going to persue is a new design of shocks that will valve much differently than anything out there, yet be pneumatic to eliminate springs and be adjustable in every aspect. The drawings and text is just about done so I'll be posting it up in a day or two. Second idea is a new way of doing an internal combustion engine that there is nothing similar to that I've seen, and I've studied just about every engine advance there has been ( even some of the real one off stuff that never got past the development stage, honda, toyota, nissan, wankle, offenhouser, ect...). It will have 2.7 times the power per CC than a standard 2 stroke race engine, and will scale down really well. It only has 5 moving parts and no crank, rods, valves, or counterweights. 0 vibration, variable displacement and compression, about 1/8th the size per cc of a standard 4 stroke engine, and ~40,000 rpm (depending on the fuel used) with an exceptionally flat torque and hp curve. Big claims I know, but I do believe it will be the future ( and most likley end ) of internal cumbustion engines, with electric being the final replacement for all automotion. I can't wait to share it with all you guys. ( and honda, if it developes well ) |
I am also pondering the workings of our brushless motors. I think the magnets are a limiting factor in the general design. No matter how much force the windings pull, they are still working against a static magnet. I.E. if there were stronger magnets to make the rotor out of, the whole motor would produce more force per watt.
I wounder if going with an electromagnetic rotor would increase the force to a point of overcoming the efficiency of the work the natural magnet produces on its own. Like putting a brushed style rotor in a brushless wound can ( just use a ring style contact as opposed to a slotted contact). One could even pulse the rotor once to feedback through the can windings to tell the exact rotor position. When braking, the regenerative voltage could work just like a standard alternating generator. The outcome being, using less watts ( say than that of a nue 1521) to make more power (than a 1521) in a can the size of a 1509. Could possibly even reduce watts lost to heat by deviding the work equally between each set of windings (rotor and can). Think it's worth persuing? (lots and lots of math involved, learning about field density, electromotive force, esc design, esc). |

Keep us posted on your ideas. I sent a few chassis and motor mounts design to see if Mike can make them and he said they were doable. I will use them to make speed runs. The truggy chassis can be used with 44.4 or 74 volts and with the SHV from CC, it should make a fun ride for sure. I'm also waiting for an F1 car that I plan on running 36 or 72 volts.

Have you gotten the SHV from CC already? I'm still hoping the MMM will show up in a 12S when it finally is released. I've got a hyper7 pbs waiting for it, the lipo's and a RCM mount. Ultimatley I want to do an Erevo with a center diff.

I had to walk around the house holding my hands after seeing that.... my brother is a mechanic and did something similar but only took his thumb off. I still can see tht day (he lived next door to us) when he walked over with a towel around his bloody hand and asked if we had any gauze and tape lol. ya well we rushed him to the hospital for some stitching to connect the thumb... it was hanging by skin....
I play guitar and seeing that pic scares me... and I run a mobile detailing business so man... it would kill me too... good luck on the recovery |

pipeous, If you don't have insurance for your biz yet, better get it. I don't have it for mine, and I'm real lucky this happened at the Habitat for Humanity work site ( building a H4H house for me and my family :), they have ins. for this kind of thing. Charge more if you need to, but don't take the risk like I was.

luatch, would you be stuck with outrunners for that high of a voltage (thinking less than 600kv with 74 volts) ? or are there inrunners that go that low?

Yes, before I started the business, I was a detailer at Pattison Toyota. When I quit I lost all my benefits. I got a loss of work plan through my bank actually, plus I have an ICBC garage policy, 2 million liability (in case someone slips in my soap or water) theft etc...
I have been involved in a civil suit before and just barely got out of it, thanks to a friend finding a small piece of paper a year after the fact and it was a 4 million lawsuit... it's not worth taking chances. my insurance is not cheap but a necessary evil in this world with so many people that try to claim for nothing... I can't look at that pic.... breakfast won't stay down if I do... |
