Need Some Advice on Supermaxx setup Please.

Well about 2-3years or so have passed since i last ran my Supermaxx:)
Its a 18.97kwf Controller / Hacker C50 setup running on 14 3300 NiMh cells. Unsurprsingly the batterys are rather dead after being left for that period of time without any care, a number of charge/discharge cycles havent helped much.

Im currently considering my options, im really not intrested in spending a fortune on this project as i've proven i dont use it anywhere near enough to warrant the huge expense i originally put out.

So im looking at replacing the batterys, possibly/Probably with LI-PO batterys.
What are my options?
All comments/thoughts welcome.

I have a Great Planes Triton Charger which i belive handles LIPO, will this manage the newer LIPO cells?

Neu Lipos are nice, Track/Flight power are nice as well..

You can try to restore those batts by completly discharging them (0.7v per cell) then charging them at 0.1 amps for hours (you have to do the math, basically the amp hours of the batts times 12). discharge at a low rate (1 amp or so) then repeat two times... it takes FOREVER, but there is a decent chance to bring them back.

Sometimes time is worth more than money and lipo's are a super nice upgrade anyhow.

Just my 2 cents...

EDIT: 3300mah should take about 40 hours to charge @ 0.1amps, and 3.3 hours to discharge at 1 amp).

off topic, but what part of colorado are you in DrKnow65?, I live in thornton

I am in Carbondale, CO. It's about 20 minutes north of Aspen, 3 1/2 hours west of Denver, and 2 hours east of Grand Junction. I'll mapquest Thornton and see how for away you are :)

Ya,you are a ways away from me. I am 15 miles nort of downtown Denver.

Well, if I ever get down to Denver (go for drags some times) I might give you a shout. Do you have a track of choise, or just bash?

Team X 03.24.2008 12:35 AM

Mostly Bash, but I do race at Hobbytown in Westminster

DrKnow65 03.24.2008 12:40 AM

What do you race there? One of the maxx's? Mini Quake?

Reason I ask is I recently sold my MGT basher and now I've just got an Academy Sb-V2 Pro I race and a few nitro's that are waiting for conversion (when ever the MMM gets released)... I could put togeather the Ofna LX ultra comp for a bash session if need be.

Cheers for the advice guys, could i ask for some slightly more specific recommadations, what sort of battery setup shoul di be looking ?

It seems i should probably be looking at a 4S setup, im guessing the 18.5Volts of a 5s would kill my setup?

Is it the norm to run two of these in parallel?

Thanks

_paralyzed_ 03.24.2008 06:57 PM

you could run up to 5s with that setup. The only reason to parallel batteries is for longer runtimes (doubles mah) or for a really cheap battery that can't discharge fast enough. just buy one good battery is my suggestion, with lipos you get what you pay for
