CRT .5 Shocks
I have been reading about the use of other shocks to replace the OEM shocks on the CRT .5. Some one posted to use Jammin front shocks on the rear of the CRT .5 and DM-1 or X1 shocks on the front. Maybe I missed something but when I research Jammin shocks I come up with only X1 shocks. They are the right size for the rear (60mm) but what should I look for to replace the front shocks?

The shocks for the Ofna DM-1 are supposed to be pretty much a perfect fit. They are very hard to find, though, and Tower doesn't even carry the parts for them.
I'm going to start experimenting with Jato shocks up front and see if I can't figure out a solution using them. |
What is the reasoning behind using a different shock set up?

The stock shocks are good for bump absorption, but they can't keep the truck from bottoming out worth a crap. I've talked with some people about this and one guy used 80wt. oil in them with the nitro setup and it still bottomed out too much. Going with larger bore shocks allows for good bump absorption and almost eliminates the bottoming out issue.

nitrohouse.com carries all the DM1 parts. You should be able to order the shocks there. or at least the parts to build the shocks.

The CRT .5 I have goes down 25% of the travel just sitting. Its not overly heavy and I have the gray springs on the shocks. Maybe changing to the Blue or White will help. I have not ran it yet but I assume that just getting on the throdle will drop the back end enough to drag on the ground. I really don't like chassis slap so I want a stiffer setup. Upgraded shocks might help. Like I said the rear end is covered. Any thoughts for the front? Whats the issue with the Jato fronts?

Having the truck settle 25% of the suspension travel when just sitting is normal and really is needed for it to handle properly. Its called droop. Without it when you corner and the outside suspension compresses the inside suspension many time lifts and without that droop the inside wheels would lift off the ground causing it to not handle well at all.
If you set it so it rides all the way up it will be very unstable when cornering or even on just moderate bumpy tracks. |
Droop~ thats the word I could not think of. For me there is to much droop for my style of handling. I will keep looking. Nitro house will charge about $46 to build the shocks with parts. WOW!!!:surprised: Ebay may have something soon.

The DM1 shocks are for the front of the crt.5, and either CR or CRT front shocks (13mm not the new 16mm big bores) will fit the rear of the crt.5. The one problem I've heard about the DM1 shocks is that you loose travel. They don't have as much up travel as the stock shocks. Either way the stock front shocks are way over leveraged for the weight of the car.
Rob over at nitrohouse.com has the DM1 shocks as a complete kit for under $50. They aren't on the site yet, you need to call to get them. That's really cheap for a nice pair of shocks. The guys who pieced them together earlier paid about a $100 for a pair. If you stick with the stock shocks, then you really need to at least go to the blue front springs. The greys are way to soft. For a smooth indoor track I run blue front and grey rear. For bashing or rough tracks I run white front and blue rear. I usually run the smaler 2 hole piston F&R with 60wt F and 40 rear. However, all of this may be old news by this evening. I'm working on a different shock upgrade for the front that is cheaper and has the right amount of stroke for the truck. Muuuuhhaahahaha :bad: |
