5MM Bore Pinions.

I'm getting a 3905 E-MAXX it's the new one and a Novak 6.5 ESC and Motor setup.I was looking a towerhobbies at the spurs for the new E-MAXX and there using a .8 module pitch spur gear I seen it's molded on the spur gear .8 Now what I need to know is will the mod1 pinions that rc-monster sells mesh up with the .8 spurs.Novak also says on 16.8 volts to start with a 12 tooth pinion and move up from there the rep for Novak told me you can go as high as a 14 tooth pinion,he said running in grass maybe to much for it with a 14 tooth pinion.I do not have a track and will mainly be bashing.

no you need a 32p pinion from mike i believe

In an E-Maxx, there's really no reason to upgrade to the 5mm rotor for the HV motor unless you just really want to. The slipper in the E-Maxx will make a huge difference in keeping it from breaking. Then, it's much easier to buy a 1/8" bore, 32P pinion. It'll save you a ton of money up front instead of buying parts you really don't need.

Novak told me they were getting to many people bending the stock 1/8 shaft on the rotor with the E-MAXX that why decided to upgrade. So my problem is that there saying to run a 12 pinion when running 16.8 volts but you can go bigger but in grass it maybe to much for the 6.5 setup to handle. If I can not get 5MM bore pinions in 32 pitch that are 12 tooth I will try sticking with the stock rotor and see if it bends. Also does anyone know if Mike at rc-monster has a phone number I can reach him at.Thanks for the help guys.

A lot folks were bugging them for a 5mm shaft to use in 1/8th scale conversions...not to use in E-Maxxes. However, I'm sure some folks have had problems with them in E-Maxxes, but part of that could be from folks running the slipper tightened all the way.

But, look at it this way. Without spending the money to upgrade to the 5mm shaft from the get go, all it costs you is a $4 pinion. If you break the stock rotor shaft, no real harm done since you can just buy the 5mm upgrade anyhow.

I think I will upgrade right away so I will not need to worry about bending anything. The reason I would rather get it now is because I do not have a LHS and it sucks waiting for part and I see the parts are in stock right now.I also seen on towerhobbies if you enter part # rrp1212 robinson is making a 12 32 pitch 5MM bore and they also have a 13 and 14 tooth pinion as well with 5MM bores you just have to change the last 2 to a 3 or 4.The guy at Novak said a lot of E-MAXX owners are bending the stock shafts because of so much extra Torque is being sent out the stock pinion shaft,he told me they were going to release 4.5 and 6.5 versions with the 5MM already installed as stock hardware witch will be nice to see. Thanks for all your help and man you do not know how happy I found a 12 13 and 14 tooth pinion in 32 pitch with a 5MM bore.

There is one other thing I was wondering I see alot of guys that first got the 4.5 and 6.5 setups that the pinion hangs 2 or 3MM over the end of the shaft so you can line the pinion up gear up with the spur will this matter I myself can not see it matter.I have seen a few guys run the pinion offset a little bit but olny by 5 to 8 thousands of an inch in some pictures.

I have a HV Maxx 4.5 I had to upgrade not because of a bent shaft but because it snapped! Ran a few times with the new rotor and was impressed. Now it doesn't run at all!!! Have a mamba Max sitting in front of me waiting for my 8xl, CC BEC, and new pinion to allow me to run near 40MPH. I have been told this will blow the HV MAXX system away! As far as .8 Mod, that is the same as 32P

Actually, Mod 0.8 is 31.75p, which is close enough to 32p. I've been using a 32p pinion on a Mod 0.8 spur on my e-Jato for quite a while and it works perfectly.
