How do you guys mount your 9920 ?
Just working out the layout for my BL MGT, new chassis on route (a steal off ebay) so i can hack away to my hearts content & mike is sorting me a centre diff, theres loads of room, got a few ideas on battery placement & i can keep the esc, rx, ubec, etc all on the centre line easy.... im looking at putting the ESC (probably the 9920) behind the motor on a nice flat bit of chassis but have noticed the 9920 looks basically just shrink wrapped, not what im used to with an ESC, so how do you guys mount it ? is it zip ties & double sided tape ? or has someone got a more technical answer ?
Pics greatly appreciated ;) Cheers Andy |
I use zip-ties. If you use double sided tape I would use servo tape. Other kinds just seem to peel off, you can also try velcro. I prefer to use velcro but in some situations you can't.

I use velcro, servo tape or zip ties ..... or all at once:) A little padding won't hurt, because the electronic components on the bottom are just protected by the shrink. Some foam are whatever
Here's an old pic of my Revo, when I still had the 9L. Between the mount and ESC you would find a strip of thick velcro. I also use 2 zip ties on this one. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...evoxxV1008.jpg |
How did you get your motorclamp that black Daniel? a little scientific project named anodizing?
here is how i gave the 9920 place in a lightning; http://www.serum.demon.nl/BL%20lightning%20PRO/16.JPG http://www.serum.demon.nl/BL%20lightning%20PRO/17.JPG http://www.serum.demon.nl/BL%20lightning%20PRO/18.JPG http://www.serum.demon.nl/BL%20lightning%20PRO/19.JPG (you shouldn't have asked for pics... ;) ) |
:D Here we go again! Too bad the HB is not in your possesion anymore.
How did you get your Nemesis that silver?? A little project involving Sodium Hydroxide?? ("nor really, but close" would be the answer to your question as well ;) ) Want some more pics of mine? j/k |
Cheers guys, so my usual double sided velcro, a bit of padding & maybe a zip tie....... though serum, if you wanna knock up another of those mounts you made for the lightning ;)

@ dafni, no, it was a bit simpler than that.
I shorted the three wires, and put the shaft in a powerdrill. I used scotchbrite to remove the purple. It's about 4 minutes of work i guess. |
I use a reusable zip tie on my Ofna 9.5's 9918, and Industrial Strength Velcro on my T2's 7018.
|
Thanks Serum, I see. No big chemical magic involved, eh?
I just removed purple ano from a G1 Gorilla chassis, used a solution of NaOH. Worked like a charm. Like I said in my first post. It's a good idea to use some sort of padding when you mount the ESC directly on the chassis of an off-road RC. A member here once damaged some components. |
Yes, padding is NEEDED! I broke a part on the bottom of my Warrior 9918, even though I was using velcro on the bottom, and zip ties! Foam padding would be the best, IMO, along with zip ties.
|
Yeah, those SMD components are rather fragile..
I made foam inside the aluminum holder to prevent the smd horror |
I third, fourth, or fifth the recommendation of padding underneath.
Even though you have the ESC strapped securely w/ velcro or ties, there's enough vibration and bouncing to cause damage to the bottom. |
