smoking warrior!

today i fried my warrior 7018 while running a basic 4200 on 3s lipo. it was glowing red at the base of the capacitor when i drove the car by me, right next to my lipos! so i emailed the reputable person i bought it from and this is what i was told:
It was not the S/C but the Motor ,in this case 4200 for 6-8
cells . you ran 11.1 volt or = to 12 cells. Thats why you smoked S/C . For
Lipo you must make changes to R/C set ups . First A 99 amp S/C And sec. A
3100 Xl or 3600XL Lehner for this set up lipo. Or go back to 2S lipo
7.4volt lipo for the 70 Amp S/C. Send the S/C to BK in Germany, But if it
BURNED up it is just junk.

im no seasoned expert in rc but something does not sound right about this. a basic 4200 runs at 46620 rpm on 11.1v. i just wanted to hear your opinions on this matter because im having a hard time understanding this motor/speedcontrol setup not being able to handle 3s lipo. it was in a rustler, by the way. thanks.

Anything strange about your ride? i.e., steel chassis (weight), bound up drive train, like to tow concrete blocks, too high a gear ratio, etc.?

Funny, I run the same setup in my pede. 3s Lipo is easy for the warrior and 4200 basic to handle(motor would have more trouble than the contoller). My guess is that someting else caused the problem(short perhaps).

today was the one day i did not tow bricks, lol. im really not that upset about the controller blowing because i wanted a new one anyways but it really bothers me that this person is trying to con me. clearly im not going to get any help from this guy, so has anyone tried to send bk products in for warranty? is there a warranty? if there is, how long is the warranty because i live in germany and will return at the end of the year after my "vacation", it would be easier to hold on to it until i return. also, i was told the mgm 80 amp controller is plenty for the xl 3600, would the 120 amp be overkill? i just ordered 4s lipos and i dont feel like smoking another speedo. thanks.

Well, if i knew German like you know it, i would call BK myself to find it out!

where did you bought it from? funny he advise that XL3600..

nbcaznmaster 09.02.2005 06:27 PM

Hey! if u get it fixed up! i could buy that controller from ya since ya wanted a new one anyway! Lol! But the setup u have seems fine. Don't make sense how it could get screwed up, maybe its just bad luck!

coolhandcountry 09.02.2005 07:46 PM

That is what I like about mike. He wouldn't tell you BS like that. I had a 7018 on a 7xl with 18cells and over geared some to. It lasted 4 week i think. I killed I know. But I found out what I wanted to know. I just junked it cause i Killed it. I hope you get better support from bk. Good luck there.

RC-Monster Mike 09.03.2005 09:39 AM

As long as there is no evidence of misuse, BK will take care of you on the controller. The sooner you call them, the better, though. Good thing you didn't happen to be towing bricks on this day-that would have voided any warranties! :)

Well... Bricks... Loose contacts.. All lame excuses not to replace a controller.. ;)

@ fear&floating, would you please let us know how BK handled it?

coolhandcountry 09.03.2005 06:55 PM

You are right serum. It is not a good excuse. I only picking earlier. No hard feeling right. You still my buddy. You can pick back. I like to know how bk does to.

Serum 09.03.2005 07:03 PM

No hard feelings at all Coolhand.. You never had the all familiar 'loose contact, please replace user' error from your schulze? (it shows a big grey cloud once it reaches this status..) THAN you know you are an idiot who didn't played close attention to his schulze.. (according to the firm owner..)

I remember reading your replies so well. I feel bad because i think i have a time bomb now. Just waiting to fry. OH well. I have to get the dogs and marshmallows out when it does. Get some good out of the frying. :lol
