Recieved my Neu
 

I just recieved my Neu 1515/2.5D I will run on a 6 cell lipo ( ESC still undecieded). I have never run a Neu motor, only Feigao's and I will say even though I havn'e seen the motor run yet I am already impressed with the motor...I have always said you get what you pay for...but 1 thing does bother me, the shaft has a flat ground, but in the middle and not the end...I ll see when I mount the motor if this is a issue

Thats actually a good thing. When the grub screw gets loose, the pinion will stay on the shaft and not fly off.

Are you saying that the flat spot does not run the length of the shaft? If so, that would limit the number of positions for your pinion wouldn't it?

I had to grind my own flat spot with a Dremel. :mdr:

I noticed the same thing also. The flat spot is too far in. I had to make my own on the opposite side. They should make it the entire length or leave it smooth I think.

The flat spot is probably in the perfect place to the prop adapters tha airplane guys use on the motor shafts. Remeber... these were originally designed as airplane motors and we just use them in our ground application. Nue primary market is still air.

That being said... I agree. Dumb to place it in only one spot. The whole length should have just a small flat. 1mm wide flat would do it.

I emailed Castle when they became the Neu distributor - I asked, since these are being "built" to spec, could they be built with a flat on the shaft...the answer from Castle, use Loctite RC609 formula. I wasn't terribly happy with that reply...

Maybe cost is a factor with adding it, though you wouldn't think it would be much. But it is also pretty easy to put one right where you need it. I like using a flat rat-tail file over the dremel.
