Shorting a lipo=destruction?
OK, about a half hour ago, i accidentally shorted a cell for around 1-2 seconds I checked the voltage, and it seems to be holding voltage steady, and the pack isn't heating up (or puffing).
Does shorting the cell guarantee a cell failure in the near future, or is there a fair chance the cell will be fine? Also, other then waiting, is there any way to ensure the cell is safe? BTW this is a new cell if that matters. |
Should be fine. Just cover the tabs with tape, and only uncover them one at a time. Have fun with pack building.

Yeah, i thought I was being safe (was covering the + and - wire), then I realized I wasn't protecting the connections between the cells and accidently touched that middle point to the Positive.
Thanks for the positive answer, don't want to wake up to my house on fire tonight (will still keep it in the basement to be sure. |
i did the same thing once when i was rebuilding a pack but mine was for like .5 sec, and its still good

Update: My home owners insurance company will be happy to know my house did not burn down last night. The cells seem fine this morning, no puffing, holds voltage. My charger should arrive in the mail today, I will charge up the pack and see if I can burn my 777 to the ground! (that would be a horrible first run eh?)
But seriously, cell seems fine, and when I make my second pack tonight I will try to be more careful. Edit: spell check can't help when you techincally spelled a word right, but used a wrong word! |
