rebuilding crt.5 need suggestions
I recently stole my Mamba max esc from my crt.5 to use in an e-maxx build, then I decided to sell the mamba max motor too. I was running it with a 7700kv on 2s because I had one left over from another car. Yes, it did get pretty hot (170's) So now I am going to rebuild with a new more appropriate brushless system. My main goal is to get this thing to an absolute maximum top speed. I have an e-maxx and hyper 7 for off road bashing etc, so I just want to see how fast I can get this to go. I was probably hitting 50mph with the 7700kv and 2s. I would like 70+. I was thinking maybe a velineon or xcelorin system maybe. But I am open to suggestions for any combo that is not super high priced. Here is what the car looked like with the mamba:

Hmmm, 70mph. I am going to go out on a limb and say that you will need some power to do this. Finnster had his crt.5 going pretty fast, check his threads as I can't remember the name of it...
I will say that you will need a high quality motor to get that kind of speed and decent temps. I would say that a neu 1506 on 4s lipo spinning around 50k rpm would do it. You would need a 3500 kv motor to do that. The velineon motor will not be powerful enough to do 70mph. Not sure about the losi system, but I do not think it will either. Maybe a 4500kv neu on good 3s lipo batteries would do it, but that may be pushing it. A mm would be a good esc for this, but you would want to disable the internal bec and run a ccbec to keep temps down, plus this is mandatory if you want to run more than 3s in the mm (and good to do over 2s lipo IMO.) |
Crt.5
Yea try this out I have a Neu 1515/1d/s a Quark competition 80b an 3s 11.1v 6000 lipo battery and lets just say it has never overheated the ESC motor or battery. Its overkill yea but I just couldnt resist. This little truck has the extended ofna chassis and a custom made 4mm grafite top diff plate. Its a rocket now I can imagine if I geared it up it would have a impresive top speed. This truck is my all time favorite rc car its just a real blast to drive.:diablo:

Would a 7L be a good choice? Does anyone know what the Xcelorin's are most similar to?
