Cooling Batteries
 

First of all, I'll let everyone know I am new to the forums here, and new to the hobby in general, so pardon my upcoming "dumb" questions... :oops:

I have a couple of electric cars already (2 Wheely Kings and an E-Maxx), so I've purchased quite a few batteries already. I read somewhere that it's recommended that to have three sets of batteries - one in the car, one cooling and one charging. That was great advice, except the batteries seem to take FOREVER to cool, especially on a warm day.

So, my dumb questions are:

How cool do they really need to get before charging them again?
Is it safe (ie, no damage to the batteries) to cool them off in an ice chest (keeping them dry of course)?
Any other suggestions on taking good care of them?

They're all NiMh batteries, I'm not ready for Lipos yet...

Sorry out of topic question. Just curios about ur name..BoilermakerU.. as in Purdue University?

I used to put my nimhs in the fridge to cool them off. You could try an ice pack, or ice in a ziploc. Just as long as they do not get wet they will be fine.

Yep - got my BSME there.

Lincpimp - I did that once (put them in the fridge), but taking the fridge to the park isn't an option! :lol: Just wanted to make sure that cooling them with an ice pack or similar wouldn't do any damage long term though.

get to your local computers` shop or radioshack and get a 12v 120mm 80cfm [or more] fan...

will cool two batteries in less than 10 minutes...

Just put them in front of a small fan . They will cool of very quickly.

I stick my lipos in the fridge.... works fine..
