connecting plasma to tv?
 

hey guys ive wanted to be able to connect my new plasma to my computer for a while but never got around to it.

today i went to best buy and bought a dmi-d cable that had an hdmi cable on the end of it..

i figured itd be an easy install (just connect everything...)
but it didnt work

when connected my tv does recognize something but it sais
"not supproted mode"

what does this mean?

what i did was hookup the hdmi cable to input 1 on my tv. then put the dmi cable onto the place where my existing pc monitor was hooked up to.


am i supposed to put the dmi cable onto my pc monitor? so id have 2 things going at once? or do i change the setting on my computer?

or am i supposed to get a vga cable????? so freakin annoyed!

Did you try to lower the resolution of your computer it may be to high for the tv.

Some TVs only support normal tv resolutions like 720p and 1080p. It may work at the tvs native res too. Check your manual.

try 1280X720 res

how do i change all this? i went into settings on the tv and didnt see this as an option

what graphics card do you have on your pc - there will nomally be settings for this in the ati catalyst or nvidia control panel..

Find out the native resolution of the TV and set the computer resolution output to those values. Also, you might have to mess with the refresh rate on the computer as well - 60Hz is usually a good bet.

You also have to set your pc to do dual monitor output.
Right click your desktop background, get to display options/settings (in Vista, you first click on "personalize", then display settings), and you can set up the dual display stuff there, including native resolution changes. If that doesnt work, I'm fairly certain you may have gotten the wrong cable.

For some reason, I tend to think that the HDMI in wont support your analog display signal from the pc (HDMI relies on a "handshake" between the device sending the signal, and the device recieving it. One of the downfalls of the HDMI system). You should get a DVI-DVI cable (it will look just like the cable that goes to your monitor - your TV should have the same type of input. http://www.cablewholesale.com/specs/10v1-05301.htm

I am currently using a RCA 46" lcd TV as my computer monitor. It rocks for Gaming. :lol:

I am using the HDMI-to-HDMI cable for the connection.

This is my "new" computer that I'm on now because my old one caught a power surge from a near by lightning strike. Well, it didn't like that, because now it is brain dead. No processor activity. The Bios is still active. It does follow the boot sequence. 1st calls for the DVD drive to check for boot disks, then spins up the hard drive, calls for the processor, then nothing. Motherboard/processor issues. I would like to repair this one if possible.

My old one was a HP:

ATI TV Tuner card with 256 megs of video ram
160 Gig primary Hard Drive
400 Gig Secondary Hard Drive
Windows XP

The ATI Graphics Card worked flawlessly with this 46" and also previously with a 32" LCD. No problems at all. Plug and Play.

My New Computer is also an HP:
Intel Quad Core Processor - Q6600
4 Gigs of DDR ram
750 Gig Primary Hard Drive
Nividia 8500GT Graphics Card with 512 megs of onboard DDR ram - also a TV Tuner Card
Windows Vista 64Bit

With the new system, I simply unplugged from the old and plugged into the new. No adjustments at all.

Before you get carried away with alot of technical adjustments. Check the simple things first. Are you sure you have the TV set to receive from the input that you're plugged into?

Can you describe your system in more detail?

What Graphics card are you using?

It's been my experience that the LCD TV's will attempt to reproduce video that is beyond their range. It will either appear much smaller than your viewing area or much larger than your screen. The borders are all messed up, but you can still see something until the adjustments are correct.

I have the 8800 video card

I cannot use dvi-dvi because my tv does not have that input... I thought it was really lame but I have a nice tv so idk why it doesnt...

it does have the vga however...

after school im going to buy a vga- vga anda dmi-vga to see if any of them will work

Sounds like you have the Sammy HP-T5604 plasma? If so, its specs say its got a D-sub PC input. You may want to consult that book that came along with it. It's called an "owners manual".....sometimes there is valuable information in there! :wink:

At the top, is the PC input.

OK this should be easy - 8800 DVI outputs both DSUB and DVI at the same time....

In your monitor or graphics card box they should have given you a little adapter block to convert one of your DVI ports to DSUB - this is normally blue.

Then just use a normal old style montor lead (VGA) to hook it up - Cheap as chips if you need to buy one...

In the nvidia control panel you then have to select to mirror the output on both screens. Last step will be to check online for the ideal setting (max res at 60hz) for your TV and set both screens in control panel to that res...

For DSUB read VGA

Once you get it working, you could run both screens; the big screen for gaming, and the monitor for other work. I'm sure that video card has dual RAMDACs so it'll support video spanning with seperate resolutions and refresh rates...

I wasnt trying to be hard on him....a while back when he was trying to learn something about computer repair, he was doing all his learning on YouTube, and kinda hinted that he didnt want to read something when he could watch it. It was said tongue in cheek.....!
