MRC 989 Question
Hi guys planning to buy a charger that can charge my 2 3s 5000mah maxamps lipos all the same time by using connector series any suggestions?
|
Check out the thread in general electric - Talks about the merits of FMA and hyperion - Personally I like the hyperion but thats I'll I've used...
|
If that's all you'll be doing, look for a charger capable of 6s, 5Ah, and with at least a 126 watt power limit...
|
For what it is worth the 989 is a great charger. I use mine frequently and it works great.

I've got a 989 as well, great charger. Can handle up to 10S but doesn't work with any balancers. It does have memories for 26 different pack configurations.
Just got a TP-1010C (as that will work directly with my TP205 balancer via data port). It's also got a cool feature called a "Storage Charge" That charges a pack to 50% for longer term storage. |
so you guys mean to say that i can use to charge my (2) 3s maxamps 5000mah lipos "just wire them in series "using a series adaptor and i can use the 989 charger or whatever charger capable of 6s and 5000mah?thanks for all the replies

You can do that as long as the 2 3s packs are balanced to each other. Meaning all 6 cells are the same voltage to start. If not you will overchagre the pack with the higher starting voltage. Most balancers have the ability to drain off small variations from cell to cell in the time it take to charge a pack, but if they are charged (or discharged) to different levels beofre starting you will likly ruin you packs that way.
The only time you should charge packs on the same circuit, wired in series is if you balance them together and treat them as a single pack, charging and discharging them together (like a dual emaxx pack setup) |
Luvsrc, I'm selling my 989 if your interested :)

The MRC 989 will also allow you to use a parallel connection for those 2 - 3S Packs, then charge at 10 amps. Same charging time to full. I usually charge at a rate somewhat less than 1C though. This is said to lengthen the cycle life of the packs, over charging at the maximum rate. |
Thanks for all the replies:smile:
