FLM Savage Skid Issue

Hey,

I'm just building up a FLM Savage right now, and it seems like my center skid plate is too long. Has anyone else had this issue?

Do I need to trim the stock savage F&R plastic skids?

No it should fit perfectly. Can you post up some pictures? Only thing I can think of is that you have the plate around the wrong way.

I had the same problem. You are not using a savage X skids are you? I believe that the kit was designed around the savage X in which the skids are shorter than the previous 21/25 savages. All I did was trim the skids to fit. No Problem after that...

Hope this helps!:mdr:

Ya, I am using the older Savage 21/25 skids.

I'll try and post some pics latter.

Perhaps I'll be looking for savage x skids latter today (will they just bolt on?)..........or breaking out the bandsaw.

Yup, sure enough, the shorter skids from the Savage X allow the center skid to just drop in without issue.

:)

I am so confused now. Glad you got it sorted though.

I was trying to build up the FLM kit using parts from an older Savage 25 kit. Apparently, when HPI redesigned this truck to the Savage X, they shortened the front & rear plastic skid plates by 1/8" - 1/4".

Since it would appear that the FLM kit is designed around the Savage X, using the original style plastic skids, leaves you with almost a 1/2" less room then is required by the FLM center skid.

Go figure.

Not a big deal, but definitely a surprise and a head scratcher at the time.

You learn something new every day. I have both skids and I never came across this issue. I must have swapped to the X skids before doing the swap to the flm kit.
