Neu Motors - Front Cover?

The CC/Neu & Tekno/Neu Motors have the cooling holes in the front of the Neu Motor covered. Was anything special done to the motor for the cooling now? Or is it fine to cut a thin sheet of aluminum and put in front of the motor?
What size is the bearings in the Neu motor (1512 w/removeable endbell) and what type of bearing is best to use with motors?

I did the aluminum foil thing. Works good to keep dirt out.
