MMM so far so good with an external rx pack

I decided to disable the BEC and put an external rx pack on it, so far it is working very good without any problems, this is on my second brand new esc(i bought two)I did send back my other one already for it just died just like the others here

How many packs on it?

It is good to hear that the esc is holding up so far. Do torture it more & advice whether it will survive :whip:.

it is set up on maxamps 5000mah 6s lipos

I think he meant to ask how many times you have ran the pack on this setup ? 1 cycle, 2 cycles, etc.

You do realize that you really haven't "disabled" the BEC, it's still powering the brain board. In other words, if yours is going to fail, all you've done is postpone it. I ran a MMM last night, just like you're supposed to, no failures of any sort. I'd much rather have it pop now and not have to chase around a darn BEC.

I think he is doing the right thing. His first esc went and if I had a second I'd stick it in with the bec "disabled" to see how it goes and at least get to run my truck until the second one is returned. Then I would probably go back to running it using the internal bec cause I would have the other esc spare.

Yeah I did mean how many cycles. I am very interested to see what castle says is the problem with the escs.

I am going to do the same thing as I dont want to take the chance of having to send mine in right away. As I need something reliable NOW for racing as I have been using the stupid turnigy HV esc for racing which sucks for that purpace because of the super delayed start.

As sleebus said, the BEC is still being used, just not to power the servos when you "disable" it. It's one thing if the BEC failures were amperage-related, but it looks like it's just either a voltage spike thing or simply IC failure.

skellyo 05.15.2008 10:04 AM

My guess is an IC failure. I have to think that Castle would have experienced this same thing during testing if it was related to a voltage spike.

Have any movies of the truggy with the monster on it?

luvsrc 05.15.2008 08:45 PM

I will post some pics with my set up, It rained here all day so i didnot have the chance to run my truggy again outside,i osberved that other escs that have bec ,if it goes on a higher voltage like 4s and above would have to use an external pack just like my mamba max esc i used it in my revo on maxamps 8000mah 4s lipo and been ran it on the track many times without any problems and no heat /thermal problems with my NEU 1515 1y 2200 kv by disabling it's bec by taking the red wire out. This is what the tech staff support told me that 2 guys tried to put an external rx pack and disable the monster's BEC by taking the red wire out and so far no problems being reported but guys ,i'm doing this at my own risk and if you guys wanna do this it will be your own risk .I'm just sharing what i observed in my truck. The tech staff are still finding what the real cause of the problems.I have passion in this hobby and i thought you guys deserves to know my observations to help this "monster bug issues" because you guys are always willing to help everytime i need help here

Here are some of my pics
this is the truggy that broke our track record in terre haute, this was with monster pro and maxamps 4s 6000 mah lipo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZOQZgckCC8

Still going strong?

hootie7159 05.17.2008 01:58 AM

I've done the same thing with my second monster which i got from mike....My setup is:
8ight-t
neu 1515 1/y/f
MMM (all the default settings except 20% drag brake and low motor timing)
5s 8000mah true rc lipo
CC BEC set at 6.0v

And so far after taking it to the track and bashing with it over the past 2 days and running the 5s 8000 down to the cutoff (around 45min) my monster is still going strong :yipi: i actually spent more time fixing the stuff i broke  after over shooting my landing on the triple one too many times and throwing caution to the wind when bashing :mdr: but so far so good....2 cycles through it and its performing awesome!!!!! :yipi: and of course i disabled the BEC and am using CC's BEC until my other MMM comes back form castle.....so far so good  a lot more successful than my first MMM :grrrrrr:..and castle does have excellent customer service as Joe immediately emailed me about my dead monster and a replacement is on the way
