I was going to do the same thing with a rustler or stampede. I'll be watching this thread. United Hobbies has some great outrunners.

oh gods, what have i started... i should have just told you that it wouldnt work... lol jp..

hmm trev, what speed you shooting for?

if u had enuff voltage this would be a desirable top speed combo, relatively low rpm, less moving parts and just plain simpler.

brushlessboy16 05.26.2008 03:33 PM

wow, on 4s with the standard tires, to hit around 40 you need a 260kv outrunner

trev3813 05.26.2008 08:49 PM

so the higher the kv the faster?, iam starting to disassable the chassis tonight.

lincpimp 05.26.2008 09:24 PM

Startup will be hard on the esc. What esc will you use.

brushlessboy16 05.26.2008 09:26 PM

hes using the mm i beleive.

trev3813 05.26.2008 09:35 PM

yes this is correct

Takedown 05.27.2008 06:22 PM

You should be fine as long as everything is placed properly and the MM settings are setup properly.

Not sure about that satement. Direct to tire will take quite a bit of startup power, and may cog due to the drive ratio. For the price of the outrunner it is not an expensive gamble. Motor kv will be very important, no room for error on this one.

Takedown 05.27.2008 09:51 PM

I agree with you linc. I would go with like around 300kv. It should be fine if the throttle curve on the MM is steep enough and if everything else such as the start up power and so on is set properly.

Startup will be tricky. Assuming a LRK outrunner you are still getting more than double the rollout per phase switch of a two pole through a 15:1 tranny.

It might need a little "push" start to get it going!

johnrobholmes 05.28.2008 12:32 AM

Once rolling it should be fine. Each switch is 8.57* of rotation. One full field rotation is 51.43*. One switch is .37" of rollout, so the question is how many switches does a MM take to get synched?

We should go ask MR Owl

trev3813 05.28.2008 09:38 PM

well, this has become very confusing. i still have no clue what motor to get.
