Mamba Monster Works ! = happy weekend

Hi people,

I would just like to share my happy feeling with all my fellow forum members:yipi:. I have run my buggy with a Mamba Monster for about 15 minutes a couple of weeks ago but met with some mechanical problem. Last weekend was wasted by a wet track so I didn't dare run an electric vehicle.

This weekend was a blast. I tortured the Monster for nearly 1 hr running 2 batteries packs with small rests in between (picking up overturned buggy ). This was not a test but running together with my friend's RB C6 Xray & a host of Thunder Tiger S3s. I cleared big jumps & manhandled the buggy like I would for my nitro vehicles. No babying around.

cleared the new triple with ease

I'm happy to report after all that, the temperature at the heatsink of the Monster was 40 deg C, motor was 50 deg C & battery 35 deg C. Ambient was 30 deg C.

I did perform some modification to the esc though. As per advice from members of rctech & rc-monster, I removed the fan wiring from the esc & plugged it in directly to the receiver. In addition, I reinstated the UBEC into the system & that powers the fan as well. Also took out the +tive wire from the esc.

the small b/w wire coming out of the esc case are the new fan wire that's connected to the receiver now

Hopefully, I will run this setup week after week, month after month from now on. Special thanks to members of rc-monster, rctech & Castle Creations for your help & guidance. :intello:

Regards,
Joe Ling

PS : The battery is now the weak link. I had 1 pack puff a little during the run. These packs are 25C 6000mah packs from PQ ! :surprised:

Glad to hear your Monster is working well! Looks like a fun track, I only wish we had an 1/8 scale track in my area.

Just curious, but where in Malaysia are you? My mum's from Ipoh.

Nice looking buggy, glad that you are having success!

What do you have your lvc set to? If it is set to 3v per cell, rasie it up to 3.1 or 3.2v per cell. That may help the battery a bit, as it will give it a little more headroom if one cell drops faster than the others. I have not found that it alters run time much, maybe 30sec max.

Thanks for that. I'm in East Malaysia on Borneo island.

Thanks ! I think that is an excellent idea. My lvc is set to 12V for 4S at the moment.

Getting a setup that's rock-solid is a good feeling, isn't it? Great to see yours is working out so well. Your conversion is one of the first I saw a loooooong time ago, and is one of the reasons I now have a eHyper. I just wish I wasn't stuck in a hotel room for 5 weeks on a business trip. I've finally got everything together, but I can't play with my toys!

George16 06.08.2008 09:07 PM

JoeLing, what port in the rx did you plug the fan wire in?

It's a mighty fine feeling. The kicker is that I didn't blow up multiple escs like the last time. Time for a new project !

Glad that I have been of small help to u :mdr:

Do the time, when u are able to get to the important toys, it will be that much sweeter.

The fan wires were solder onto a proper plug that connects to the receiver. The plug can go into any empty slot of the receiver. In this case, the receiver slots just act as a header to connect the power supply from the UBEC (which is also plug into the receiver's any empty slot).

In fact, a better way is to split the output of the UBEC into 2 - 1 to plug into the receiver to power all the servo, esc, receiver etc. while the other to power just the fan.

I hope I'm not being too confusing.

Joe Ling

Lucky you, hope I end up with the same outcome.

little programmer nitpicking on the title, != means does not equal, so I came into the thread expecting some sort of carnage.

good to hear you have a solid setup!

I trust that your MMM is still working like it should JoeLing?

I just ordered one from the first batch and it should be here this coming week, along with my ERevo. I done a lot of reading in the forum and I'm concerned about this controller. It's good to see someone who isn't having issues come in and post.

Do you guys think I should run a CC BEC right off the bat to increase chances of success. Maybe the fan mod thing too would be a good idea.

joeling 06.15.2008 09:33 AM

Hi Django,

My mod are based off info from this forum & rctech & so far the controller is still alive. I would like to think that the mods helped the controller to continue to be working but there's no way of telling unless I undo the mods & managed to get a failure. I'm not going to try though :mdr:.

Did some more running today but only managed 10 minutes. This is the power of the MMM / Neu :gasp: :

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...iffcupdead.jpg

Noticed no more front drive & the buggy snaking around after clearing the triple shown a few posts above. Drove slowly back to the pit area & my first thought was that the dog bone had dislocated like before except that this was on the wrong side of the previous dislocations. Then I realised that the whole cup has gone MIA. That was the end of the e buggy session for me.

I think I'm ready for a lower KV motor

Regards,
Joe Ling
