Decisions Decisions
Ok so since finding out that I wont be able to egt a revo Platinum in the UK I've decided to go back to my plan of getting a Gorrillmaxx. My main to decisions are whether I shoulkd go for a G3R or G3 chassis and what motor to run. I'm planning on running mmm with twin 7.4 lipos and it should all be going through a 1/8 centre diff. So guys what should I do. I love the look of the G3 but the G3R looks like it would handle better and I'm totaly lost on motors??

I've had them both and they are very different from each other, if your goal is to bash and some time on the track then get the GR3 (hands down!).. if your going to race and do very little bashing, then go with the G3.0 & G3.3 suspension (hands down!)
Motor would choices would be the following 1515 3d s 1515 1.5y s I might / maybe reconsider your (2) 7.4 idea, I'm running on (2) 3s 5400 = 6s and it fricken awesome!, 4s is ok and you'll be fine (lows / mid 30 mph) It a safe route and you wont really be going fast enough to brake anything (that's a positive).. I've never run a center diff on a MT so good luck with that one, I here good a bad things, so I’ll be looking forward to your future updates. Both trucks look flippen awesome when constructed . Here’s my version of the GorillaMaxx GR3 and G3.0. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2733.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2734.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2381.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2490.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_2648.jpg And here are the Videos on each truck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mLH3caydes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Svd8ZDnS6Q Many other team members also have bitchen rides as well look at the following builds to help in your selection; Jordan Suicideneil Chase023 Ssspconcepts George16 Feistyacorn To just name a few. Best of luck in upcoming build. |
Center diff is all but impossible on the gorillamaxx chassis- requires a totally custom built unit that also limits thew gearing available due to to the limited space between the chassis rails- a center diff bolted ontop of the motor mount area is far from ideal unless the rails are hacked about a bit (someone been studying the Candyman's truck perhaps?). I'd say stick to a normal tranny as it makes life much easier; you can get a centerdiff to fit inside the stock 3905 and 3906 trannies with a little work....
As for revo platform vs maxx, case of personal preference as to whether you want the revos handling or the maxxs truck style more. Horses for courses.... |
as Neil said, it is pretty difficult to get a center diff to fit on the stock Gmaxx chassis. You'd have to get pretty creative to get one to fit. I'm cooking something up at the moment, but i think im going to have to notch the chassis rails a little, among other things, so yeh... it'll get pretty 'custom'

Thanks for al the help guys. I've decided to buy an E-Revo upgrade it a bit and then transplant it all into a G3R chassis. Oh and Im sure I'll be able to fit a centre diff in somehow :na:.
