lipos in an airport/plane
I'm flying out tomorow and I really want to take my CRT with me but I was packing it up and I couldnt help but notice how much a 3s lipo looks like a bomb. it a block with wires coming off of it and I was wondering how do lipos fly at the airport and on the plane? is anyone going to give me trouble? should I cary them or check them?
thanks guys and i need to know asap. |
Either way they will probably scanned by an X-ray machine, and a lump that looks like C4 isnt going to go down too well  I would phone the airport and check- they will probably want to be fore-warned so you dont get any suprises come check-in time.

There's a limit on what amount of lithium you can carry on an airline. I'm not sure right off what that limit is. Something like 25g across 2 batteries? I do know that you absolutely can NOT have spare lithium batteries in your checked luggage. Be that spare batt's for your camera, laptop, or phone. You can have 2 in your carry on, but again, there's a limit on the amount of lithium. I have no clue what 25g lithium content would equate to as far as mAh ratings or anything.
oh, here, I found this snippet at bit-tech... "The rules are, as seems to be standard for airline regulations, somewhat oblique: you can carry batteries with up to eight grams of “equivalent lithium content” per battery so long as you don't exceed two spare batteries with an “aggregate equivalent lithium content” of 25 grams. If the battery is a straight lithium type (as used in some digital cameras) rather than lithium-ion or lithium-polymer, you're limited to two grams of lithium per battery" Pretty vague. I think they might hassle you over the rc packs in your luggage, but maybe not. J. |
I have discussed it with my dad and Im just going to carry my truck with me, and then im going to have him ship the batteries fedex, or ups...

I heard you can only bring those Orion hard case lipos on airplanes but this was a few months ago when they wouldnt let me have toothpaste either.

There is a limit but it is = to 2 spare laptop batteries. This Limit is a newer thing. Also you can not check the lipo's period. Must be carry on. I am sure you could get away with one pack. Not sure about the second pack.

I live in Australia and I got my lipos airbagged/air mail from Amain and they were here in 6 days (2 of those days was the weekend)

i got 5s Hyperion 4900mAh (almost 500gm) shipped to me from NY to Kuwait , i dont think anybody said anything :P

A couple years back, I packed my xxx-4 in a suitcase checking. In it was also a kokam 3s 3200 mah battery, and there was no conflict flying in either direction. Although I don't know if the rules have changed since then, my laptop has a 10.8v (3s) 4400 mah lithium ion battery that I just recently carried on a flight to Japan no problem.

The law now states clearly that LIPOS may not be packed in carry on. There may be a exception for if they are installed in the device ... IE, Laptop.
But as a spare pack NO NO NO .... Highflier |
when you fly just make sure you are wearing a clean set of underwear you never know when the airport security will engage the random strip search.....lol
