Strobe Slipper

Thinking of changing to the strobe slipper. I am in the process of installing a xl3100/9920 on my maxx. If I do this, what gear combo will be close to 18/66 stock gearing? Are there any modifications needed for the strobe slipper? Any pointers???

My current setup includes:

RPM arms
Fastlane diffs & bulks
GA Ti skids
12 cell GP 3300s
MIP bones

Thanks!

18/66 isnt a little high for the xl3100? Just wondering.

14/51 would be just about the same.

That motor's kinda hot for a Maxx, it better not be a heavy one. If you're going to go with a Lehner XL, I'd choose either the 2800 or 2400.

Yeah my 9L spins 2731Kv and it gets kinda hot. I could imagine 3100 with a less torquey motor would heat up faster.

Okay, how do I decide what size motor is needed and how to gear it?

Look and see what most of us are running. 9L, 10L, 7XL, XL2800, XL2400 are the popular choices.

I can find specs on all of these motors. How does one translate these specs, cell count, weight, etc. to information that can be used in choosing motors? Where is the motor slection guide? Please don't say there isn't one! Mike???

You are in the motor selection guide. Some one around here can point you in the direction. It comes down to what you want as well. Do you want something to pull wheelies and run 60 mph or happy with 35 and wheelies. Do you know the weight of your truck? How many cells are you planning on running? What speed are you shooting for? We can hook you up. We are mikes pupils. Sometimes the student becomes the teacher. What size tires are you planning on running as well to?

As far as speed, 35-40mph.
Current weight is 11lbs. However, when I add my camera system it is almost 12lbs. I don not use the camera system alot, but I want to be able to run it.
For batteries, I run 12 GP3300 cells.
Tires are stock.
Also, the future plan is to migrate to carbon fiber chassis and 40 series tires.

i would recommend the 7xl. i have the xl3100 and it is REALLY FAST! if your only looking for 35 to 40 thats not the motor for you. not to mention it runs a little hot. also, if your truck ways that much i would NOT recommend it no matter what. if you dont ever plan on running more than 12 cells maybe a 6xl....
