LRP S8BX Conversion and Questions
I just bought an LRP S8BX Buggy which is the same buggy as the SH buggy that metal man just converted. http://www.lrp.cc/en/products/rc-car...buggy/details/

I measured the hole spacing on one of the centre diff mounts and it is 21mm from mounting hole centre to hole centre. Are there any other buggies with this same hole spacing that mike makes a motor mount for already? I'm thinking I will use 4s in this buggy with a 1512. I'm not sure which 1512 to get yet. I'm thinking I'll get something that can handle 4-6s but better for 4s. |
So no one knows any buggies with 21mm hole spacing on the diff mounts?

That's a really cool looking buggy you've got there Tim.. If you cant find the information your looking for, just send your parts to MetalMan and in about two weeks you'll have your motor mount. He made me one and it turned out fabulous.:yes:

Metal man might be the go for the motor mount if he is willing as he already has his buggy and has already made a mount. I have no idea yet what weight oil i'll run in the center diff. I'll see how it goes once I get the buggy converted and I see how it runs on the track.
Thanks for the tips on the motor too. I'm starting to get a bit scared about getting a 1512 with a number of people saying they get very hot. I am going to be racing in 100F+ temps in summer and I want the thing to stay cool. |
Mine is running a 1512 2.5D/F and 4s Lipo. The smallest pinion gear I can fit with the finned Neu is 18t. With this gearing top speed is ~45mph. The motor runs just fine on larger tracks, but heats up more on tighter tracks. Dropping down to 3s with this gearing and motor really helped with heat and having too much power on the local 1/10 indoor track.
Are you planning on retaining any mechanical brakes? |
Yep mechanical rears for sure and possibly even mechanical fronts but unlikely. I was wondering about gearing. The rear chassis brace is what is stopping you from gearing lower isn't it? I was thinking about making a new brace which runs on the other side of the drive shaft and then back underneath to the mounting holes.

Yep, it's that rear chassis brace. If I had a standard 36mm diameter motor as opposed to the 42mm Neu finned can I have I could drop down to a 12t pinion if I wanted. Smooth finned Neus are 39mm OD, so you should be able to go down to a 15t pinion with the stock 44t spur. I'm almost tempted to order a Kyosho 46t spur gear to see if it would fit... that would allow a better range of gearing.
Funny thing about the steel spur gear, my buggy is very quiet compared to other buggies running steel spur/pinion. Don't know if it's because all of the gears are still relatively new or if it's something else. |
Won't you have to stick spacers under the diff mount to fit the kyosho 46? I am tempted to get the tekno neu 1y for durability and it should be able to be geared a bit taller.

The diff would probably need to be raised, but that's not a huge issue IMO. When the diff cases come in I will order a 46t spur and test out the compatibility.
