Am I going to Be Able to Make 20 minutes?

I'll be testing my EA8 BL conversion later this week.

I know there are a lot of variables, but I was wondering running a MGM 16024, Neu 1515 1.5, Maxamps 3S 8000mah, 11.1V will make 20 minutes?

Stock spur with a 13t pinion.....

Was just curious before I got out there....

which 1515?

BushyAR15 07.07.2008 10:07 PM

Its the 1.5d / F

You may likely make 20 min.

DRIFT_BUGGY 07.07.2008 10:34 PM

Why you wanting to run a 1515?

BushyAR15 07.08.2008 07:32 AM

Based on some other threads that what people were running in their conversions....

Too much motor?

since you are running low voltage the setup will pull more amps, the 1.5d is an amp hog, is this truck light in weight? I have never heard of one

That motor can do well if geared low enough. However, a kv of 2700 on 3s is only 30k rpm. Geared low, your top speed will be weak. 3s is hardly ever recommended for larger vehicles. But, that motor on that voltage on that vehicle geared for decent speed will make things run hot.

Brian,
How did you come up with that calc (??) 2700 kv / 3s = 30k (??)

Thanks..

BrianG 07.08.2008 01:17 PM

ok, 29,970rpm. Didn't feel like typing all that out.

TDC57 07.08.2008 01:21 PM

So to make a long story short, each (s) is equal to 10,000 RPM (??)..

Mike_D 07.08.2008 01:29 PM

No you take the voltage and multiply it by the kv of the motor. 11.1 x 2700kv = 29,970

TDC57 07.08.2008 01:35 PM

Cool... thanks for the clarification Mike..

No problem, i had trouble figuring this out a long time ago too.

You will probably make 20 minutes. I was running a 3s 8000 with the 1512 1.5d which pulls more amps than the 1515 1.5 and I could just barley make 20 minutes.

With that said, it isn't the most efficient setup, especially if you gear it up to embarrass the nitros. Works great if you keep the gearing low. You will pull a lot of amps which will put a strain on the battery. I just puffed a 3s 6000 the other day. Unless you are running on a very small to medium track, 3s is not recommended for this scale of cars. Trust me, I have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. I have been running a 3s setup for the past 4 months in my rc8. Decided to move to 5s.

Your best bet if you want to make 20 minutes consistently is to go with the 1512 2.5d (2050kv) or 3d (1700kv) and run on 5s. It will run a lot cooler and be a lot easier on your ESC and batteries. The 2.5d also gives you more options for future voltage. You can run the 1512 2.5d on 4s through 6s with no problem.

The 1515 motor is a bit much torque wise for a buggy. It will work, but it is kind of overkill. 1512 is the gold standard for buggies that are driven on a track.
