Having some fun with 8s, 9s and 10s A123 cells (videos)

After switching from a Neu 1512/2Y (1400kv) to a Neu 1515/2Y (1100kv) i made some test runs with 8s, 9s and 10s A123 cells. This setup powers a 1:8 buggy/truggy hybrid (Robitronic Protos buggy Chassis with Robitronic Mantis truggy arms and tires). Overall gearing is 1:13 with a 14 tooth pinion and a centerdiff filled with 30000 silicone oil. ESC: Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32.

Click me to see me run with 9s A123 (Max 28000rpm, 85A, 1920 Watt)

Click me to see me run with 10s A123 (Max 31000rpm, over 2KW)

Click me to see a short slowmotion clip.

Nice..love the slow motion flip!!

VintageMA 07.08.2008 07:50 PM

That's crazy!! :surprised:

I could cut my pizza with those front wheels on 9 and 10S. :yes:

bl-is-future 07.08.2008 07:51 PM

brushlessboy16 07.08.2008 07:56 PM

pizzas in the oven(literaly)

that thing is crazy!

lutach 07.08.2008 08:29 PM

Awesome. My truck did the same thing on 10S A123. It actually jumped about 2 feet off the ground. It's just awesome power. Great videos.

brushlessboy16 07.08.2008 08:36 PM

my pizza burned..

suicideneil 07.08.2008 09:02 PM

I do love that Mantis, and those A123 cells. How do they all fit on the chassis, got some more top-less shots for me/us to drool over? The esc is super smooth too.

drkros3 07.08.2008 09:21 PM

damn! lol. that things got some amazing power on 10cells lol. and love the slow motion flip haha

kyosho501x 07.08.2008 09:32 PM

how much runtime do you get?

TruckBasher 07.08.2008 10:22 PM

Cool pizza cutter but if it flips that way you end up cutting yourself :lol:

Great vids...

Finnster 07.08.2008 11:23 PM

haha..I always had fun w/ my 1515/2Y on 10s A123 or 8S lipo, tho I didn't have the gearing quite so high as you. Mostly I pulled about 1700W.. there was plently of gearing to go up but it was plenty powerful and fast. Stayed dead cold too. :)

Altho I did do 12s A123 once... that was a show. The poor Revo didn't know what to do with itself

i got about 20-25min bashing.. and on the track I burned 1600mah in 10 min of racing.

othello 07.10.2008 01:17 PM

Glad you all enjoyed those videos.

@kyosho501x
Runtime varies between 7-10 minutes depending on what surface i run her.

@suicideneil
A few months ago i started with the Robitronic mantis truggy. It was fun to drive but was not as agile as the buggy i drove before. Right now the car is based on the shorter Robitronic Protos buggy chassis using the Robitronic mantis truggy front and rear axle parts as well as the 52z spur of the truggy. Basically a truggy with the wheelbase of a buggy.

From time to time i run her as she was meant to be with shorter buggy arms and tires.

Click me to see me run with buggy tires and arms (Gearing with 15z pinion 1:1213 and 8s1p A123)

Click me to see me run as buggy/truggy hybrid with 8s A123 (1:13 gearing) on the same track

Click me to see me run as buggy/truggy hybrid with 10s A123 (1:13 gearing) on the same track

@Finnster
For 10s A123 she definitely is geared too high (temps still remain in check but performance is crazy). Ultimately i think i will gear her 1:13,8 and using 9s A123.

@brushlessboy16
Sorry about your pizza ;-)

othello 07.10.2008 01:45 PM

Just for reference: Before i switched to the shorter buggy wheelbase i tried different gearings using the truggy chassis.

Wow, thats something a bit different and special. Kinda like the revo2.5 vs slayer with shorter arms. I like...
