http://www.fastlanemachine.com/Publi...9/Default.aspx scroll down a little bit |
For that price, I'd rather buy a pair of new ofna 6 spyder diffs at $40 a pair shipped from ebay. Then buy mike's diff output shaft or make your own like I did. You'll need new spur and pinion though.

George16 - are those going to fit in the stock 3905 diff cases, or are you going to need another set of cases - Tmaxx??
The 16.8 diff cases are diff - they are smaller - they hug the ring gear, kinda like a revo diff. |

I didn't think so - I run ofnas in my FLM E, SM, Pred and soon on my Lightning. A set of spares will be getting some new UE cases so I can run them on my old Tmaxx and not worry about diffs again (except for maintenance, lol).
Even with the cost of a set of cases, I think buying ofna diffs is a better deal all things considered. |
I've been using these diff on 6 & 8s and they are great, no issues at all in months..

The ofnas are the same as the 6 and 8 spyder diffs that UE sells. It's cheaper than UE and Hot Bodies. It's as good as the hot bodies diffs. Tell me a good reason why I have to spend $60-$70 on one diff when I can buy 2 -3 for the same amount .

Are they going that cheap on Ebay?? I got most of mine from guy on UE forums and he was cheaper than UE, but not as cheap as that.
Like this one?? http://cgi.ebay.com/Ofna-HoBoa-Hyper...3286.m14.l1318 |

The hyper 7/8/8.5 have a 43/13 diff ratio. The one you linked which is from a Hyper ST has a 43/10 ring to pinion tooth count. |
George16, I'm not trying to be a pinhead, but neither of these come with pinions as neither ad shows or mentions pinions as included.
Both are 43t ring gears, so is there a difference? Is the ST 43t ring gear any diff than the 43t hyper 7/8/8.5? If there is a difference, I'd def like to know. I guess what I'm asking is the "crown gear" part number the same for both? I know 1:1 diffs it wouldn't be different, but just don't know the ins and outs of these well enough to know. Thats an awesome price!! Did a little checking online with manuals - they are not the same part numbers, so they are different even though they have same tooth count. Thanks for saving me from finding that out the hard way George16!! |
One last ques - what does the 8 spyder diffs come in?? Haven't found those yet. Thanks!!
|
Man, you want me to do all the searching for you :na:?
The difference between the ST and the 7/8/8.5 is the pinion gear teeth count. Like I said in my previous post, the hyper ST has 43T in the crown gear (which is the same as the 7/8/8.5) but the pinion only has 10T compared to the 13T on the 7/8/8.5 models' pinion. The diff ratio will be 4.3:1 (for a 43T crown gear divided by 10T pinion) for the Hyper ST while the Hyper 7/8/8.5 is 3.3:1 (43T crown gear divided by 13T pinion). As for the 8 spyders, CFalco of RC-holics on ebay used to sell them. Here's a link to his ebay store. You can also email him and find out if he has some. http://stores.ebay.com/RC-HOLICS/1-8...ERENTIALS.html Just to add more confusion to you , I'm also using kyosho 6 spyders since they are cheap here in Japan. |
Thanks!!
I understand all the gearing (ME degree), what I didn't realize was that a 43t ring gear designed for a 13t pinion was different than a 43t ring gear designed for a 10t pinion. They're different part numbers so they are different gears. I wouldn't have thought straight cut gears would be different, that a 43t ring gear was just that, a 43t ring gear. Nope, you have to know which pinion they were made for. I have been running kyosho's in my HB Lightning buggy since the 1st time I serviced the diffs, so no, thats not confusing. I think these guys all get together a few times a year and share anyway. |
