Problems with MRC 989 charger
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this:
I have been using the FlightPower Balancer with my MRC989 Charger in charge/balance mode for quite awhile without any problems. The other night my balancer blew the 10A fuse...I replaced it and it blew again. So...I replace the fuse a second time and use my MRC977 charger and everything works okay. I then tried using the MRC989 to charge a Lipo pack without the balancer connected...it worked fine. Anybody here have any idea what would cause this? |
i have the same setup and it runs fine. Dont know why that might do that?

Are you putting the balancer in link mode (charge through) before plugging in the charger?

well the charger is only capable of 10amps so i am not sure what could be happening. I use mine in link mode so it balances as it charges. bde has a good point. But since you said it worked fine before i imagine you are setting it up correctly.
this is what i do - 1. set up charger for battery 2. plug in battery to balancer 3. hold the mode button until the link light comes on 4. plug in the balancer to charger 5. hit start on the charger I'm sure you are doing this but figured it could be useful if anyone else reads this |
I had this same problem with a LBA10 balancer. It turned out being wires shorting at the green plug on the side. I bought mine off eBay and the person from whom I got it wasn't very good at soldering.

Yep...same steps I use... |
MRC has asked that I send it back to them with $40 to cover the repair costs and shipping. I guess this sounds reasonable...
In the interim, I will probably buy a second charger. I was thinking about the Hyperion EOS0610i Net. I hear it is a good unit...can anyone here confirm this? |
I ditched my 989 after the power supply failed. It melted the 2 connectors to the charger. I'm lucky it didn't catch fire. First and last MRC charger I'll ever buy.
I picked up a EOS0606i AC/DC charger and love it. Built in balancer that tells me each cell's voltage. Super simple and reliable. I have let to hear anything bad from anyone who's bought one. |
same here after a problem with my MRC 989 i ditched it and got a hyperion 1210i ME LIKEY !! :)
|
WOW that is the first time i have heard bad about the MRC and it was 2 people. I have never had a problem with mine. Very accurate and keeps my batts in great shape.

this worries me now. I hope mine works good still

All of my mrc's I owned turned into junk.
Since the I bought my hyperions all is smooth sailing. MRC looks good on paper with specs and features but unfortunately they have always failed for me. I understand that this is the same with their model RR products as well. |
