My Bl Mbx4

Hi guys

I just ran my BL mbx4 for the first time OMG:L: it's fast. I'm using a 9L on 12 matched gp 3300's 1.79's for voltage. The gear is a 46t spur and a 14 pinion with buggy tires. The pinion is regular steel it's already showing wear. The motor felt warm but okay the speedo was a little hotter than i like . My temp gun said speedo temp was 180 but my temp gun was off by 20 degress compaired to a excergin temp gun ( best temp gun you can buy). So it's acctually around 160. I think the gear is wrong any ideas ?.

Dafni 10.12.2005 02:00 AM

good to hear you have it running. (and too bad it's not easy for you to post pics)

Hmm, controller was warm, but motor wasn't....do you have a smaller pinion??

(on my buggy, 9L on 14 cells, I thought about 51/10. But this may already be on the hot side)

I hope you can get it to run reliable. Just don't burn the ESC!
I thought about putting the smaller (slower) Lehner Basic XL 2400 in my buggy, but forgot to order a pinion.

BTW, I'm expecting my MBX5 any day now. Fingers are crossed.

Daf you would be proud :p this thing is fast . I'm using a sacrifisal pinion the smallest i have to spare is a 14t. I have a 12 but its on my DVO:D . Mike is going to case harden a pinion for me, he said i'll be the ginnie pig:eek: . He said the smallest he has in stock is a 14 . (What size do you suggest ?.) I wish we lived closer i would bring it over so you could drive it :L: .

Dafni 10.12.2005 02:12 AM

Okay, I see.

What motor and spur is on the DVO again (sorry for not remembering all details :o ) It's a 51/12 on a 9L, right?

We're talking about Mod1, right?? I would try a 10t, if Mike can get one.

Ja man, if we lived closer together... imagine this.

rchippie 10.12.2005 02:14 AM

My buggy has a 9L on 12 cells, 46t spur & 14 pinion speedo kinda hot.

My DVO is perfect 9L on 14 cells 51 spur & 12 t pinion great temps no problem at all.

Dafni 10.12.2005 02:19 AM

Just did some math. Your buggy needs a smaller pinion, IMO.

I hope some other guys will post their opinion too.

Serum 10.12.2005 04:29 AM

Yes, smaller pinion, that's what i thought when i read thru this post!!

get a 10.. Mike has got them or can get them. the spur is plastic right?

Dafni 10.12.2005 04:33 AM

Nah, the spur is steel, I guess. (that's why he's trying to case-harden the pinion)

If gearing becomes a problem, you can also "magic" an Ofna spur to a mugen center diff. (The 51t plastic) Same as Starscream did to his center diff.

rchippie 10.12.2005 04:34 AM

No i'm using the mugen spur its metal. Mike is going to case harden a pinion for me to try.

Serum 10.12.2005 04:39 AM

Yeah, i would get a 51 tooth plastic spur.. The 10T pinion is not too good for a metal spur. Have you got room for this spur? perhaps some spacers are needed.. But try a 12T first.

One hint;

the gears on the traxxas emaxx input shaft (smallest is 13T) are hardened. perhaps you could test one of those. (it has a 5mm hole, only needs to be tappered. The diffs you're using, are they 43/13?

rchippie 10.12.2005 04:42 AM

I have room for the ofna diff , but i would rather use the mugen diff if i can. Unless i can get the ofna diff to fit the mugen diff mounts .

Dafni 10.12.2005 05:58 AM

You can keep the Mugen diff. You just have to grow a little disc, where you can attach the ofna spur. Kinda like a lid for the cup.

Put some spacers under the diff mount, and you're set.

RC-Monster Mike 10.12.2005 10:11 AM

I have adapted the HB diff to a plastic(delrin) spur gear by making a brass insert for the diff cup. Then, the spur gear goes over the cup and insert and it works like a charm. I could make an adapter for the Mugen diff quite easily as well, if I had one to size up(would take a little time, but not too hard to do). The 14 tooth will be less than ideal, while the 10-12 would work much better. The 12 pinion with a 51 spur would be quite nice, actually.

Hey Hippie, LMK when your going out to lake park sometime, we can run the electric 1/8ths.

Romster 12.15.2005 09:14 PM

I too run Bl 1/8 buggy..

I run a hacker master compettion esc with a feiago 9xl geared at 51t/14 and a small fan on esc. run 10minutes on full throttle . with macth 3300 12 cells. It's cool pretty fast..
my 1/8 buggy is a kyosho mp6 international.
