Where to buy balancing taps?

I found everything i need at maxamps but they are really pricey. So if you guys have a source that you can share with me that would be great.

What is need is
hyperion to fp 2s adapter
hyperion 2s balancing lead

This is the adapter I use to convert Hyperion taps to Flightpower taps:

Although it is actually cheaper at Max Amps...

There is also this one, but they don't have it at AMain.

^^^^+1 Those are the ones I used for my 5S1P a123s and 6S1P packs. Go to the hyperion site and download the manual for the LBA10 balancer - last page has balance tap wiring diagram for diff cell counts.

Theyre also at Aircraft world (long and short). Good if your here on oz shipping (insured) from japan rarely goes over about $2 (even when I get a heap of A123 cells), not sure about other countries.

looking at the fp and tp connectors i am puzzled as to how these couldnt short your packs. or is there some kind of magic going on inside the tap boards. as fp taps have more + wires than - and the standard hyperion have the opposite. surely you could make something similar yourself? those converters just appear to be straight through wires. or is it me?

Sammus 09.19.2008 06:22 AM

theyre all basically the same. one on +ve, one on -ve, and one going between each cell.

If there are are extra wires (ie hyperion taps I linked) then you need to remove some wires.

If you are happy to go with jst taps you can get packs of 10 from ebay for a dollar or 2.

Hyperion have a good detailed pack assembly guide here. It is for A123 cells, but the wiring idea is the same, just different shaped cells ;)

nope still not with you. from how i have seen how the packs are made, you have, in the case of a max amps pack, 1 + wire and the rest terminate to the negative. this is to complete the circuit by switching between cells to monitor each cells voltage. but what happens when you plug a + wire tap with a negative connector? surel you will create a short... surely? unless i guess the hyperion charger senses polarity and detects a difference and then switches the circuit around? dunno, just bought some off all e rc and will wait and see. seems every man and his dog are out of them in the state. its prob right in front of me but i just dont see how it avoids a short.

Sammus 09.19.2008 09:41 AM

no circuits are made at all, theyre just connections to where the cells join, so its easy to monitor each cell voltage. IT's basically like getting your multimeter probes to measure voltage and sticking them either side of random cells. the balance tap is just like an extension to do that easily
