beefing up for brushless
I almost have my flm savage done and will be running it on 5s with a neu 1515 2.5d. The only beefing up Ive done so far is jb weld the tranny in second gear and I added a 52 tooth steel spur...should I be beefing up anything else?

Wow I guess she's beefy enough...cool!

Beef it when it breaks. You can beef up almost anything on the savage so it's a hard question to answer. The dog bones are a weak point. best ones seem to be the gpm titanium ones surprisingly going from a test done on another forum.

hi
in my bl savage conversions i always used the plastic spur. i think i shredded only one or two the last five years. i did different savage mods to make it hold up bl power in the long run. i know for many of you this is all old news. - transmission fixed in 1st gear with this shaft. still plenty of gearing options with spur (47-53t) and pinion (9t-25t). http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1.../fourpins5.jpg http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/2...jan07_(11).jpg - diffs trimmed 43t to use bigger bearings. now i would use those hardened black ones from hpi. http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...mn06_(150).jpg use other diff cups (kyosho IF103) or trimmed alu cups to use bigger bearings http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...mn06_(153).jpg trimmed the diff outdrives to use additional bearings. now one can use the bigger ones from hpi from the xl version. http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...mn06_(135).jpg http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...umn06_(91).jpg http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...umn06_(89).jpg use those little slider plates inside the diff cup. http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/1...umn06_(33).jpg - more beefy dogbones http://www.jaeser.org/~beat/images/2...jan07_(35).jpg the 'philosophy' behind the mods was to make the 'core' (transmission, diffs etc) as beefy as possible and leave the 'periphery' (wishbones, shock towers, roll cage etc) as flexible as possible. the 'core-periphery' principle is what i follow for bashers. 'racing' may be another story. however i wouldn't choose a monster truck for racing anyway. bye rhylsadar |
I did the jb weld trick in the tranny and I got a steel spur so I'll just wait to see what goes thanks!
