emaxx brushless motor decision
I have the new emaxx and trying to decide on the motor either medusa 36-60 or feigao 8xl. I will be running 2 2cell 6000mah lipo and a mamba monster speed control. I mainly just bash but I want to go about 40 mph and atleast 25 minutes of runtime. I will run in the snow during winter. I don't want to worry about over heating. I would like good reliablity. What gearing should I use. If I get the feigao I will get the rc-monster heatsink clamp. Can you please help me decide.

I run a 9xl in my buggy and it does get pretty warm. From what I have heard the Medusa motors run much cooler and are a bit more efficient as well. I don't know what the stock gearing is so I can't help you there.
If you really want an efficient and worry free motor, go w/ a Neu...such as a 15151 YF (2200kv) or a 1515 2.5DF (1700kv) On 4s I would go w/the 2200kv motor. On 5s the 1700kv would go just great. It really depends on your budget. Quality comes w/ a price though. WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! |

It really is amazing the quality difference between the 9xl and my Neu 1512 1YF. Not to mention that I really don't have to worry nearly as much about motor temps.....the Neu runs 20-30* cooler than the 9xl....
Some may say that I can buy 2+ xl's for the price of one Neu....IMO save your money un til you can afford a Neu. I just got my Neu back from repair in two weeks from the day I sent it in...great customer service. |
If you can wait a month, Castle might have their Neu clones out and Medusa might have their 70mm motors out.
If you can't wait and you're on a budget, I'd choose the Medusa over the Feigao. I have them both and the Medusa is a much higher quality motor. If you have no budget, then go with the Neu as previously suggested. :-) |
the mamba monster system won't be out until mid October. That is the system I want but that is so long. I can't drive my month old emaxx because I sold my stock electronics because I had the novak hv 6.5 and it broke twice so I sold it. The neu are so expensive. I am just looking for an alternative route. Where is the best place to buy the neu 1515 1y for 4 cell lipo suggested above. Or should I wait for the mamba monster Over the neu? On a guest what would you think my runtime be on the neu motor on 4 cell lipo 6000mah? What would my top speed be?

or you can wait 3 weeks or so and try out the new Losi system coming out. That is what I am planning. I had a CC/NEU combo back ordered at BPP but the delays and waiting is killing me so I canceled it, and ordered the Losi system. I am planning on running 4s in my E-Revo, and I was looking for a 2100kv motor to push it along. The Losi system has both. Sorry CC but the waiting game is killing me.... Plus I want to run it brushless over here in Iraq...if I wait to much longer that wont happen.

that Losi motor is huge it is a 720. Aren't most motor for monster trucks 550. I will probably buy that. That thing must make some major torque. I wonder how fast that will push my emaxx? They are making a 2200 kv motor? It comes out in three weeks?
|
No idea how it will push the Maxx .... I think it is a 2100 not 2200 ... so 100kv off. The websites states mid-sept. I am hoping it does will in my E-Revo. We will find out as soon as I get it in my hands!
|
I don't see a combo with the 2100, I see the combo with the 1300 and 1700 but not 2100. It seems like it will drain the batteries faster but you never know. Maybe they will come out with an e-lst, that would be sweet. Do you know what the warrenty is on it. I wonder how water proof it is for snow?
|
I imagine thee will be a 2100kv motor and esc combo, if not just buy the motor and esc seperately.
Anything in the 1900-2200kv range will give the same kind of performance really on any given voltage, just tweak the gearing a tad. I doubt it will be waterproof as such, as very few BL motors and escs are (exposed wiring connections and plugs etc), but for snow use you could do seomthing simple like apply plastidip to exposed solde joints on the motor, and put the esc in a small tub with holes for wires to enter and exit. On that note, read my Emaxx FAQ- in my sig. :) |
I will probably preorder the mamba monster system because they have great customer service, 1 year warranty and it is highly water resistant and they will replace it with basically no questions asked.

but there are still problems with MMM
|
And I'll give the same question- which motor you would suggest for #3905 emaxx with majority of alu parts (heavier), I would like to run it on 6S a123, esc will be propably MGM 160Ampers.
Motor - when cost doesn't matter, what would you suggest to run cool, long and strong? It would be nice to have something cool with current limiter, and when giving more ampers to weak up sleeping monster :) Which motor is the best now?? |
No such thing as a current limiter on motors, but there are things you can do with some escs in the programming to get a little more power.
For a heavy truck, I'd suggest the neu 1515 1y, or the slightly larger 1521 1.5d- both should be a powerhouse on 6s2p A123. |
