Okay to remove power switch from MM?
I have a mamba max that lost its power on switch. So what I did was solder to 2 wires together, and to turn it on I just plug the batteries in. I am using an external BEC and 4s.
Could this damage anything? Thanks |
That is perfectly fine. In fact I remove most of the switches I encounter. They are more of a nuance than anything.

Then pull the switch off and solder the wires together? Me, I like to replace the stock open-frame switch (which lets dust/dirt inside and corrupts the contacts) with a sealed toggle like those found at radioshack. Even though it's not needed, I like the 3A+ switches because those switched tend to make a more solid/secure contact. The lower-amp ones still work, but the force needed for the switch action is less and might auto-toggle on a hard landing or something...

if you are running higher voltages when you hook your pack(s) up there wont be the big spark if you use the switch
|
Are you sure about that? The switch is just used for programming and to shut the "brains" off. The input caps are connected directly to the power input wires so will spark no matter what, unless there is some circuit I'm not aware of...

I think because the brains will draw down the caps with no switch and with a switch there is still power stored in the caps.

I just never turn off the switch. If the battery is plugged in then I am good to go. Really dont see a need for it. If the switch goes like it did on my mamba max then I will just solder the wires together.

I have noticed that if I have run my 6s set-up within the last few hours, then I dont get a spark when reconnecting batteries. But if its been a few days, then she sparks. Maybe just a coincidence. or maybe the caps hold a charge for a limited time?

Yeah, caps will bleed off slowly.
