20150+6XL+4S lipo = OK?
 

Would a 20150 and 4s lipo run more efficient and cooler than a 9920 with 4S lipo? Right now I run the 9920, 7XL and 4S lipo on my Emaxx, and after 10 minutes or so it gets pretty hot -- near 165f. I did run an MGM 16016 and it ran much cooler while it lasted, I liked how cool it seemed. Would the 20150 be similar that way? I am going to add a fan to the 9920 and that should help, but I do have a Nemesis 6XL sitting around I would love to run in my Emaxx. The little bit I tried it, it made that thing really scream! Seemed much more gogo than the 7XL, but it would only go for about 3 minutes before the 9920 shutdown. I'd really hate to fry a $500 controller, but I would really like a smooth running bulletproof setup, if there is such a thing that is...

You could run that setup, but it would be very demanding on the batteries. Why not just run your 7XL on 5s Lipo, and then gear down? That shouldn't be too hard on the 9920. The 9920 will actually run more efficiently with a fan on it. This is because as the temp. of a FET goes up, the resistance of it also does, causing even more heat. So, if you keep it cooler, less voltage will be wasted, which means higher efficiency.

What is getting hot? the controller? you could try throwing in a fan, like you suggested.

Perhaps you could try gearing up or down a bit.

Or an 8XL

The 20150 will run more efficiently than the warrior controller to begin with. I think the 20150 with a fan would be pretty tough to kill in normal usage.

i thought a 7xl, 9920 and 12-16cells or 4-5s li-po's was a really good set-up for the e-maxx, why do i hear about overheating?

the micro series are better in the partitial load than the warrior. Not that the warrior is a bad controller, it's just that the micro gets less hot in the partitial load. (like Mike says, the micro is more efficient)

Partial load is where my motor/controller is run most of the time, as on my track I can't open it up very often and that's one of the reasons for my origional question. I also like to run for the full duration of my batteries which can be up to 1/2 an hour, and my bigger truck and my liking to push my abilities on the track my motor/esc would end up pretty warm by the end of that. Lipos seem to make it worse as available current is constant throughout the entire run, unlike nimhs that dropoff as they drain.

I want something that is able to take this lying down so to speak, so a 20150 I think is in my future. I was really impressed with how cool the 16016 ran after long times, that was nice! My 9920 starts to melt the shrink it gets so warm...

did you try to change the gearing up a little?

why not get the 36150 instead? This gives you the option to run even more lipos in the future?
