Brushless monster trucks
I am looking to end up with a brushless monster truck and am leaning towards a Savage second hand and then convert it if I can't find one for sale already done. I am also looking out for any bargains in other trucks, such as Assoc MGT and Losi LST2.
During my research I have read all the threads about buying new, converting and buying electric new. I want a large truck (1/8th scale) because I think they look better bigger and will mostly be bashing it. Now to my questions: What scale are the E-Savage and E-Maxx? Are they the same size as the Savage SS and T-Maxx? Is the E-Revo the same size as the Nitro Revo? (just an electric conversion) Thanks Brow |
The E-Savage and E-Maxx are considered 1/10 scale, however, the e-maxx (no experience with e-savage) is as big as the T-Maxx and both are a little smaller than a Savage. E-Revo is actually a little longer than a nitro Revo.
If you want the biggest and beastliest truck on the block, I'd say go for a Savage with a FLM extended chassis. :wink: |

I would have to agree and go with an E-REVO. It is a bit bigger than a REVO 3.3 and comes ready to handle the power of brushless (except the pre glued tires). I have one and am running a Tekno Neu 1515 2.5d/f and a MMM. The only other mod I have is the maximizer beadlocks and badlands MT tires. Nothing has broken yet even after several "bad" landings and cart wheels!

+1 on the new erevo. Seems well built, and handles better than an emaxx. I run a 1515 1.5d on 4s in mine, and it handles that power and 45mph just fine. The lst and savage are bigger (savage is not much bigger) but they are not so easy to build electric...

The E revo was 399.99 in my local hobby shop. My emaxx has that alone in upgrades. We won't even get into to my E lst conversion.

I'm avoiding the motor brakes on my E LST as it's alot of truck to stop.
The LST isn't all that difficult to convert. As someone mentioned the most difficult part is the motor mount. I designed my own, but, still haven't bothered to get it machined up. Too sick & lazy. As soon as I get it done, I'll post pics & hopefully vid. Had a Quark SSB MK III in it originally, but, fried it doing some test runs with a high kv motor (6XL)zip tied into the chassis on 4s. It worked a treat till the ESC went awol. Now going to try MM & a Feigao 8XL on 5S(thinking should've got a 9XL or 10XL). My mount is designed around the Feigao diameter can using the RC Monster heatsink. As the guy's have said, for simplicity, the E Revo is probably the ticket & it's also going to be new with no cracks or worn out parts if you buy new. |

I have seen quite a few new trucks now in stores so I know a bit more about what I am looking at. I saw a Thunder Tiger MT4 and really like the look of it as a truck but it looks difficult to convert (ie custom). I have got onto a deal for a new Savage X SS kit $350 (Australian dollars) without engine, tank, clutchbell, engine mount, exhaust from a local shop (normally $600 for full kit). I know I might be able to buy a full kit and sell off the parts for a cheaper final price but this is easier, no shipping cost and I need less cash up front. How does that sound to you all? I think the mgt is a pain to convert so is the lst, I don't think mike makes conversions for those trucks...just about everything else though.

the mgt was super easy i just took my mmm 8xl out of my revo because i blew the tranny again. all i did was remove the nitro mount build aluminum plate that bolted to the chassis but i put small spacers under it to keep it directly off the chassis and driller 4 holes in it to bolt the flat part of the rcm revo mount to. then put the pinion on and away i went. i need a smaller gear though as i have motor temp problems. im going to buy a tekno electri clutch to run a cb on it because i have alot of them to work with. then im going to buy the tekno kit for the revo to run the clutch also to try and save the tranny some abuse and also get a 9 xl for the mgt and put the 8 back in the revo.

Cool! But I have a buddy here in my home town that has a mgt but can't really make anything home made you know (not and have it work...lol) so I'v kept an eye out for a conversion to recommend to him but havnt seen anything.

E-REVO is the only way to go here.. mine has a stance as wide as any 1/8 truggy, not to mention being faster and as capable on the track.. I race truggies every week and end up in the top 5 or 6. I beat myself out of being in the top 3 (getting too anxious), but the top 2 are pro drivers so... They have me beat by a second per lap still.
Here is a shot of her (17mm hubs and 1/2" offset holeshot tires are pretty much required for racing).
