breaking ofna spider gears
I have a violator 9.5 I run on 4s with a nue 15152d (2050kv) and I've been going through spiders quite often....everything looks perfect the ring / pinion / bevels but the spiders keep munching! I now use aluminum diff cups and silicone fluid (10k) which seems to work better but after a few runs the gears are now feeling a little funky, I'm guessing they will munch soon. Does anyone know of a beefy diff I can get that won't grenade?

I had been using Ofna diffs on my tmaxx(6 spyders) and emaxx (8 spyders). I still have to munch any of them. The key is shimming them properly to prevent excessive play.

I've heard the hardened diff gears are the go from hotbodies (link). Haven't had much experience with either though...

George16 brings up a valid point - shimming is key. You want enough shims in there such that it is just barely loose enough that it isn't binding. I have yet to burn through ANY 1/8 diff bevel gears, be it Ofna, HPI, etc.

Ok That's what I'm gonna do...the next time I replace a diff...instead of just one shim on a each of the four spiders I'll put two that should do the trick thanks guy's. All my other gears look brand new and are showing next to no signs of wear what so ever. Man these 1515 motors are fun..they get with the program!

I forgot to mention that I'm now using aluminum diff cups and they are supposed to have tighter tolerances...That may help. Also thanks for the link to those diff gears sammus...will those drop right in my ofna violator diffs? I'm guessing my ofna gears arent hardened and they would be a big improvement.
